If someone showed labia, are they banned? Was someone that stupid? Why delete a whole thread over someone posting bad pics? Delete the pic/post, ban/suspend the user, done.

So what is the verdict on starting up a new one? That one had about reached it's typical limit anyway.

Me too. Can someone post it over at xcritic? There is a random pic thread in the other section.

The Search For Random Pictures thread.

There was a random picture thread, but it seems to have disappeared.
Did it leave any clues behind?

Deleting the thread seems a bit extreme. I rather enjoyed that thread for the 99% of the pictures that did not wander outside the nebulous bounds of DVDTalk decency rules.

If you want to see the girl in the blue dress, I'm sure you could find it in google cache or archive.org...

Was the one girl in the blue dress photo that was posted against the rules or something? I'm not even sure why that even keeps coming up.

Because she had giant boobs and everyone knows giant boobs = spectacular beauty.
Doesn't even matter that those boobs go down to her knees.

I don't much care for the pretty girl pictures, but don't mind them until they get to overwhelming the thread or lewd. But I miss the thread because I like the interesting pictures. In fact, it's the only reason I'm on this forum at all. I want the thread back. If I promise to be good and report the jackasses, can I have it back?

Attempting a new random pic thread here. I don't think permission should have to be granted from the mods, so I'd rather start a new one with a sterner warning up front rather than wait for some sort of IB protocol explanation. Keep it clean boys and girls, and I think it could still work.

Mods, feel free to add your own warnings up front to the new thread, because the rules are pretty obvious but obviously not always followed. I'm not sure what else can be said without coming down on creative postings.

Thanks for your permission to add our own warnings in addition to your own, but until we decide on the guidelines and penalties for not following those guidelines we don't want a picture thread started again. We hope to have those decisions soon.

OK, I wasn't being snarky and "giving permission"; I was letting you guys know the thread was there so if you wanted to explain what you had said in this thread to folks who may not have seen it.

Why are the actions of a few people affecting the entirety of the membership over something a simple as a random picture thread? Aren't handing out suspensions or even bans a relatively simple thing? If posting several rule-breaking pics is enough to get an entire giant thread vaporized, shouldn't automatic suspensions be enough of a deterrent for people? And an explanation in the thread so that people can see that that line isn't something to be danced around. Just break the img tags and let the thread continue if it happens. I realize you don't want to be policing a large thread like that minute to minute, but aren't there 7 mods for Other?

Re: Otter Picture Thread?

Logic.....it has no place in The Otter.

Re: Otter Picture Thread?

I always thought of the picture thread as having a PG-13 rating. That is, pictures of girls are OK, even ones with large breasts in blue dresses, but that anything that would be R rated would need to be in spoilers. And any obvious nudity including things like wet t-shirt contests would be forbidden.

R-rated would be things you wouldn't want your mom to see if she were standing behind you. Things like obvious cleavage shots, maybe hard nipples under a shirt, a fine ass in tight shorts, etc.

But of course the purpose of the random picture thread should be that of, well, random pictures. It isn't the random cute girl picture thread though again, the girl in the blue dress should be exempt.

So the random pic thread is bad, but the sequitur one is ok?

FWIW - I don't collect or have interest in DVDs any more, and the random picture page is one of the few reasons I still visit the forum. Hopefully the powers that be will appreciate the ad revenue generated by this page and others like it.

Yeah, I know. Just messing with VinnieStJohn...who is quite obviously a KISS fan, and reminded me of another DVDTalker around here....who's been here awhile, too. It was a "multiple accounts" joke, as there seems to have been a bit of that around here lately. But it didn't apply to VinnieStJohn directly, I was just having a laugh. :)

Every once in a while, X would get people back on track, but then it would degenerate into pictures of women, for the sole purpose of showing how attractive they were. It would be one thing if it was newbies doing that, but it was people who have been warned multiple times.

It's unfortunate, as there were a lot of cool pictures being posted, but it doesn't surprise me in the least.

The horror! -rolleyes-

I think this thread has served its purpose and is no longer going in a useful direction.

When IB has concluded its examination of the issue, perchance an update will be posted.

Closing.

Random Picture Thread Update?

It's coming up on 3 weeks since the Other Random Picture thread was closed. Any word from IB on a decision?

It is easier to just do it and apologize later if it is a problem....it seemed to work for OJ. Twice.

That doesn't work so well here.

We're working on putting the guidelines together for the continuation of that type of thread. We do want to allow it to continue.
