The "How Come You Can't Stop Counting at Ten" Thread
[rant]Maybe it's because we've been inundated with year-end and decade-long "best of" and "favorite" lists, maybe it's because I've been fighting off a Crohn's flare for the better part of a month and I'm bitchy, but whatever the reason...Why is it so hard for posters to limit their "Top Ten" lists to just ten? There should be power for mods to revise any list that exceeds that limit by removing everything after #10. And no hiding behind the "Honorable Mention" loophole, because I've seen too many lists that give us ten numbered items and then an entire run-on paragraph of those that didn't make the cut. You know what "not making the cut" means? It means it doesn't appear in your post![/rant]

Ah, it's just laziness by the posters in question. If it were me, I'd just start the thread under a different title...Top 17 Movies to be Released in the Spring of the Last Half of the Decade or something similar.

Re: The "How Come You Can't Stop Counting at Ten" Thread
In all honesty, I have a hard time picking a list of EXACTLY ten favorites for any specific time period. Certain years have an abundance of good films, and it's unfair to get all pissy and demand that I limit my list of favorites to a certain amount. If I can't decide, then I cannot decide. I don't have a large booklet of criteria by which I will address each film in a tournament style elimination examination just to satisfy your criteria for my post. If I want to list 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, or even 42 films in my list, you better bet I will.

There's no need to stop counting at 10, because as we all know, 24 is the highest number...

Whenever a poster does that, send them a polite PM explaining your quarrel with their list. No doubt they will learn from their mistake, and do better next time.

Better let the guy who posted 69 movies instead of 10 know!

I don't have any problems with the long lists as long as they're adequately explained, informed and interesting. The same ten to fifteen films in lists over and over again isn't very interesting to look at. Evidently this isn't the consensus and I've adjusted my post accordingly, although the narrow-mindedness of such an opinion is less than I'd expect from a forum expecting to encourage film discussion.
What bothers me is when someone posts their top "ten" and do rubbish like this:
3. Paper Heart
2. Inglourious Basterds/Watchmen
1. District 9/Up In The Air/Bride Wars
There are six films in that top three.

Then people would learn to damn well fall in line.(after crying and sniveling and claiming how unfair it was to delete their all-important post)

I would delete your post and ban you for that.
I would probably delete my own posts above and ban myself too.

I don't mind if a list goes past 10 but when someone asks for a top ten then someone post a list of 30 or 40 without making comment, I get slightly irritable.

Oh, now you've done it. This is one of my pet peeves.
I completely agree with the OP.
Also, when a thread asks for a FAVORITE, that means ONE THING! It's retarded when an OP asks for your favorite sci-fi film of all time, and then the first bozo to reply lists ten or fifteen films, "depending on mood".
How about if you can't handle answering the question as posed, then just refrain from replying?
Seems like some people just want to be the one to have the cool films listed, but there's so many, so they take the shotgun approach and list everything they think will call attention to their post.
