I always "pop-up" when I get a PM from you!

It's not that same sort of DHTML notification, but you can get a Javascript alert of a new PM by setting:

User CP->Edit Options->Messaging & Notification->Private Messaging->Show New Private Message Notification Pop-up

Of the private messages ive done for the past week (on and off), I haven't gotten a single pop-up notification for any of them. I didn't even know I had any messages till I checked my emails.

I remember in the past (as I don't private message much) I used to get them, but not as of lately. Nothing has changed as im still using the same browser (Opera), and I have double checked my preferences to make sure I have pop-up notifications turned on, which I do but im still not getting them for some reason or another.

I can't remember if/when I last saw such a pop-up but assume that is down to my set-up.

However, I do scan the top right of the page - below the cover shots and my member name - when logging on where, next to the "Private Messages" link, the number unread is shown.

It is funny how instinctive this quick check becomes but, when I've been on regular/reliable email, that notification has been an adequate prompt.

Thats my problem, is that I so rarely send/receive a private message that I forget to check the upper right corner for that.

I don't recall ever getting a pop-up notification. I'm slowly learning to check that area for unread messages, not that I PM much.

I'm actually anti-PM. Just email me if you want to contact me. Why should I have to check multiple inboxes? Everything in one place is much more convenient imo.
