DVDTalk marking threads read after ~5 min browser inactivity

Why does DVDtalk mark all of the threads read if I leave my browser on the same page for about 5 minutes? I only use Firefox, so I'm not sure if it happens in IE or not.

So it's a problem with the version of forum software? That's unfortunate. I was hoping it was a setting I had overlooked somewhere.

I'm happy it works this way. I like to see blocks of unread threads that are new since I last looked. I tend to have read any that I cared about when I was at the page earlier.

It does take longer than 5 minutes for me I believe.

That's a great idea! I'll suggest it.

The problem is if I'm reading a thread, and then something takes me away from the computer for a while, I can't come back and see what threads I haven't been to yet. Now that I think about it, 5 minutes does seem a bit short, however I come across it more often than I'd like.

I'd think this would happen a lot to people at work.

I guess it doesn't impact me because when I have a page of threads open I right-click and open a new window to read a thread. So the list of unread ones remains in bold when I close the new window. It's nicer to the server that way too.

This forum has done this for awhile and I've always hated it. Would be nice if you could adjust the time - I've found it to be more like 10 mins of inactivity.

I personally like it this way if I choose not to read it at this time it goes away and then if there is an update later I might read it. I know it seems weird but I like this way better then everywhere else.

It happens to me too - but its around 10-15 minutes at a time. It's kinda annoying because sometimes it took more than 15 minutes for me to read a long thread.

But eh, so what.

Same here. What I do is read the threads i'm subscribed to first, then click on new posts. If there's a thread that interests me, i'll right click and open it in a new tab and keep doing this until i've scoured all the new posts. Once i'm done with that, i'll click the Mark Forums Read (or whatever it's called) link.

However, since I always keep that page open, it would suck when FF crashed, because it would complete the last action and mark all the forums read - even though I hadn't read them.
