No, "torture porn" refers to horror movies that appeal primarily to 13 year old boys who like to tie firecrackers to the tails of dogs. They having plots that are little more than big budget snuff films.

WHT?!?!

The creepiest part? While I was cutting and pasting the section of the screenprint IN PAINT the ad started playing IN FIREFOX.

This.

Personally I think you're wrong. What you're describing above could fit any slasher/gore flic from the past few decades. The torture porn "genre" (as I believe it is used) is more about combining that sort of movie w/ a porn, so the sexual aspects of it are essential.

Oh. We call those "home movies."

And the ad still sucks.

Brian Shannon 05-15-08 07:05 PM

I am extremely glad my work blocks all forms of this ad. I have just now seen it for the first time and it is horrific and appalling. Someone actually believes that this is good advertising?

I have a feeling that the people that like this kind of ad are not on this kind of website.

No. "Torture porn" was coined when the new wave of sadistic torture films like Saw and Hostel started coming out featuring elaborate death traps and mutilation etc. Sexuality isn't really part of the equation, though nudity is abundant in most R-rated horror movies anyway.
These movies I would classify as torture porn:
Saw 1,2,3,4
Hostel I, II
Captivity
Devil's Rejects
Wolf Creek
Turistas
Borderland
Frontier(s) - definitely

Kittydreamer 05-15-08 07:29 PM

I want to see more sex in my torture porn. :(

Ok... not the way I had heard it but whatever. So in that sense then yes Frontier(s) is "torture porn".

Th0r S1mpson 05-15-08 08:40 PM

I'm pretty sure that's violates the Geneva Convention. Over and over.

cultshock 05-15-08 11:37 PM

Yes, torture porn doesn't have to involve anything conventionally sexual. It's sort of like: if you get off on graphic, elaborate torture scenes, then these films are like "porn" to you. That's the way I've defined the genre term at least.

LurkerDan 05-16-08 12:03 AM

so, let me get this straight. Having an ad that is on damn near every page and autoplays sound and is annoying as fuck and not very family friendly = ok.

Mentioning that movie over and over in posts in an attempt to be humorous = suspension?

This place is fucked.

Agreed. I guess some people think it is better to get rid of posters instead of annoying ads. Money talks I suppose.

Talk about naive as hell.

Sdallnct 05-16-08 12:17 AM

And I thought I had seen everything -ohbfrank-

argh923 05-16-08 12:20 AM

Wait, what happened?

Rockmjd23 05-16-08 12:21 AM

Damn, I joked to him about the "last post on every thread" incident too, and now this. Awful judgement whoever gave the suspension.

cultshock 05-16-08 12:23 AM

Someone got suspended for promoting this amazing film in Other. This place is getting more and more ridiculous. -ohbfrank-

I will remain civil and state simply that I am taken aback by this action. I'm also going to take this as a sign that I need to spend my time elsewhere. Pretty damn sad to see where this has gone. Later.

argh923 05-16-08 12:46 AM

This is beyond ridiculous.

And you can't blame IB for this one - falls solely on the mods.

Absurd.

But hey, nothing's changed since Geoff owned the site, as I've been told. Right?

I know some mod will come on here and insult our intelligence and talk about how this was "baiting" or something...fuck it, I don't even care. This place is quickly turning into a shithole, and it's not JUST IB that the problem lies with.

HistoryProf 05-16-08 12:54 AM

another vote for FUCKING RETARDED mod action. remember that joke about how the fun had left the forum? well it has never been truer...it's not just gone, it's been executed.

dx23 05-16-08 12:58 AM

Bando got suspended because his campaign for Frontier(s) didn't contain enough gore or loud noises.

Seriously, this is getting out of hand. First the damn ad and now suspending a veteran member for a joke?!?

I thought it was because his campaign wasn't "family friendly". You know, unlike the official campaign, which certainly was. Wow, asinine decisions are being made left and right these days.

beesonosu 05-16-08 01:14 AM

Can't believe so many people are cutting and running. Speaking of cutting, the hair has grown over my ears again. Anyone know a good barber?

antennaball 05-16-08 01:15 AM

Fucking ridiculous.
