To be fair, this wasn't my decision. I just happen to be a slacker and have time to go open the threads. You can thank all your neighborhood mods. Maybe next Christmas, you'll remember to tip us

I do. We also couldn't say homo, but thanks to my erectus, I got that changed.

I've heard that your erectus gets lots of people to say "homo".

True, but even then, people were allowed to do simple substitutions, weren't they? Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly, but I seem to recall things like f*ck and sh*t being alright back then. It's impossible for us to know what instruction IB has been giving the mods and admins, but some of the recent comments certainly give the indication that they'd like to censor the forum quite a bit more than what we've ever seen before.

Yes, but one of the reviewers, LotsOfDVDs, actually put the Zodiac Rapist picture as his profile picture just to prove a point (along with questioning the mods about the rules), and they fired him!

Well to be fair, I haven't reviewed a game since Missile Command for XBLA. But there rarely seemed to be any screeners available, so eventually I stopped checking. I guess they just decided I was done and removed my reviewer status. No big deal.

No one said anything to me about it though, that kinda sucked. But it was the weekend and IB doesn't work weekends...

Chuck, I think it was more a matter of that you were a 'legacy' reviewer than anything else. I don't even think I had you on the list of reviewers that I turned over to IB.

While I have influence or involvement in the family friendly call, I have to say that I find it quite amusing that the same issues have been churned over and over again in this forum about what is and isn't permissible.

Again this is me talking and I don't represent DVD Talk, but for history's sake - the whole concept what to keep the forum Soft R rated to match the content on the site. It was never any aim to make it PG. But for me the big surprise is that those of you who want harder content don't seem to use the adult forum over at XCritic. We set it up there to 'catch' that interest. So I'd be interested in finding out why it doesn't work for you to post adult stuff one click over at Xcritic? What can we over at XCritic do to make it easier for you? (Do we need an adult ad free adult other?)

But I would say, give the mods and admins a break. They're the ones caught between a rock and hard place in the switch here. They're good guys and they're honestly trying... and I have zero vested interest in saying that...other than the fact that it's TRUE.

I think the problem is, that the 2 websites attract different kind of people. Dvdtalk (otter) type people generally just want to bullshit about random crap that sometimes gets a little Mature. XCritic is where you go to discus how many inches a starlet dilated after getting DVDA'ed. I think you would have better luck trying to grow your audience from other, more compatible websites, than by trying to force people from here over there.

Because XCritic is a DIFFERENT SITE. It's not DVDTalk. Nobody wants to go to an adult website.

Not to mention it's not about posting sexual things - it's about posting things in Otter that, in the days of the Adult Forum being here, wouldn't have been censored or deleted.

Nobody wanted a spin-off site (using nobody as a broad term, meaning the majority) - it's not convenient. People want to do all of their posting here. It's stunning to me that you guys haven't yet figured that out.

To further illustrate this point (taking from another thread):

I'll be damned if I'm going to be posting on a porn site. While I understand the reasons for moving Adult off to make DVDTalk more "family friendly", I have a feeling a lot of people feel the same way I do about posting on an out-and-out porn site and that's caused this whole mess.

An example of the kind of thing people are now kinda miffed about:

Back in "the day" I could start a "Jennifer Connelly bikini pics!" thread in Other. PG-13 at most. It's a woman in a bikini.

Now if I want to post that exact same thread, it'll get closed and I'll be redirected to a hardcore pornography site if I want to talk and joke about Jennifer Connelly in a bikini.

While this thread is full of bitching and moaning, a couple posts worth of it from me, it is worth noting that the mods and admins here definitely deserve the benefit of the doubt and have played a HUGE role in making this place what it is. They're not reimbursed or compensated for all their effort here and yet they've spent years keeping this site a civil place for adult discussion of topics ranging from entirely serious to completely inane. They deserve some gratitude for their dedication.

That said, it's worth voicing issues with any new rules or directions that come down, mainly because Internet Brands needs to see feedback if its actions are hurting or pissing off a community that it wants to use to turn a buck. lotsofdvds point above is especially relevant. He said PG-13, but really, under the new rules, all the pics could come straight from PG movies and the thread would get shut down. It's absurd. Supposing IB continues much further down this path, I have to think there's a good chance it'll create such a flood of issues that many of the mods & admins won't have the time or patience to deal with it. If that happens and we start getting new, family-friendly, IB-selected mods, this community will evaporate.

Err, completely inane is still OK isn't it?

Just checking.

It'd be nice if people stuck to the facts during this discussion. Chuck stopped reviewing almost a year ago of his own accord and our "reviewer staff" page drops you off when you haven't added anything in 90 days. There have always been hundreds of DVDs languishing on the pick list left untouched but he wasn't interested in those, fading away well before the IB purchase. As far as the ZR cover being removed, if it was so offensive to some of you in rotation as a review, it seems fair that the mods removed it from his avatar at the same time. The mods aren't "punishing him" (nor did they "fire him" as they really don't have that ability) and there have been active contributors raising questions of late too so lets try to stick to the issues at hand without the embellishments (it'll work better to convince people). Thanks!
