Wait, wait... are you leaving??? I thought you specifically said that you're not leaving, that you're just appointing a new lead admin.

If you're packing up your bags and heading out the door, then heck yeah, we'll probably all raise a big fuss.

Just start a "goodbye forum" thread in Otter.

oh, no.... can't do that. Hmmmm

Honestly, maybe I missed it but I didn't see what the official "passing the torch day" was gonna be. I take it it'll be the end of the year? Maybe one of the "old skool" members should start a thread.... it would be very apropos.

And before you leave... any pics of the new admin?

At this writing, it looks like he's speaking primarily of his duties in the forums. A lot of that is just setting the tone for the moderators and others but it's an important role all the same.

I'd have told him that the celebration will take place in a Vegas strip club but I know Heather lurks here and she'd kill me if she thought I was going to attempt corrupting the lad next month at the show. Under my saintly guidance, he will be protected from all the evils of pornography and those involved in its production. heh heh heh

I'll still be involved with aspects DVD Talk, but yes I am not going to be Admin in the forum... Thus passing the torch.

You could make your last official act my name change. I think you know what I want.

BTW - thanks for all your hard work here over the years. You created and nurtured a great community where some very diverse people found common ground. This was my first forum, and I don't think I can ever turn my back on it because of what you've made it. I've made some good friends here, some of whom I've met in real life (yes, people, there's a real world out there! go look!) and I am grateful for your efforts.

You da man, Geoff!

Ditto on all counts (except for meeting any of you).

Thanks Geoff.

Wait wait wait!

It's bad form to welcome someone into the organization, and then to hijack the greetfest.

Make a separate announcement. I suggest something like this:

I have never been a quitter. To leave office before my term is completed is abhorrent to every instinct in my body. But as DVD Talk Founder, I must put the interest of DVD Talk first. DVD Talk needs a full-time Administrator and a full-time moderators, particularly at this time with problems we face at home and abroad.

To continue to fight through the months ahead for my personal vindication would almost totally absorb the time and attention of both the Administrator and the moderators in a period when our entire focus should be on the great issues of peace abroad and prosperity without inflation at home.

Therefore, I shall resign as Administrator effective at noon tomorrow. LockStock will be sworn in as Administrator at that hour in this office.
Oh, and welcome LockStock.

Hard to believe you are giving up the magical powers of main admin of the forum. Ah to have such God-like powers, but in reality it's a lot of work, so in a way I don't blame you. I'm sure LockStock will do a whale of a job in your stead. Congrats on building such an awesome community.

I didn't know Geoff was leaving.

Does that mean you won't post any more short films you've made? Or will these be in XCritic now?

I don't understand. Why are you leaving? Is it voluntary, or were you unceremoniously dumped after the merger/buy-out? All the best.

Wow this should be either in it's own thread or at least an announcement.

It's part of the web site transition. My focus has been moved to more 'behind the scenes' stuff with DVD Talk, working with the leads in all areas who are now the people who really run the site.

As promised the site hasn't really changed since the acquisition, although my involvement with it has.

But there's really no 'DVD Talk Forum' Going Away Party' as I'm still here as a member.

Good luck with everything you go on to Geoff. IMHO, your vision for this place resulted in the most civil, entertaining and informative forum out there.

I Second that Emotion!

What a successful dude you are, G!

All those near and dear to you must be really proud.

For it has been said,

"We become like the people we hang around."

(Well, it's obvious you've steered clear of me! )

But Seriously Folks...

Thanks for all you've done over the years by creating such a fine, Quality-Packed place to play, learn, and be entertained.

Here's wishing you All the Very Best in Health, Peace, & Prosperity for many more Groovy years to come...

"Transition" sounds like corporate-speak for "yeah, I was 'encouraged' to step down".
Some years ago I worked at a large company that underwent a hostile takeover. From one day to the next, all management staff was sent packing and replaced. It was outrageous and sad, but that's what you get in the business world.
I'm sure you at least have the solace of a nice jackpot. Anyway, I echo maxfisher and Edit King's sentiments.
