Is there a next step to this?
Is whoever originated or provided the ads liable in some way?
Presumably DVDTalk wasn't the only site affected and those responsible seem likely to continue with hit and run attacks if there are no adverse financial ramifications.

Well, i'm just a step or two more tech-savvy than Don (), but I always clear private data like cache, cookies, etc before closing Firefox (in the past, when i'd reopen firefox (withOUT clearing that stuff) it would always "mark posts read" - rendering my UserCP and the New Posts link useless.)
Also, the address of the tab it showed up on was - http://forum.dvdtalk.com/index.php . Up until this instance, i'd never seen it before.

I rarely need to use Flash, but when I do I just open another browser such as Firefox to view that content. But I don't want it by default. The same thing that allows Flash to run opens up too many other possible exploits.

Same here.

CCleaner also has a registry cleaning tool that will remove the registry changes that are not referenced by the programs that you currently have installed.
