Is there a next step to this?

Is whoever originated or provided the ads liable in some way?

Presumably DVDTalk wasn't the only site affected and those responsible seem likely to continue with hit and run attacks if there are no adverse financial ramifications.

Once we're confirmed which ad it is we can look at next steps.

Well, i'm just a step or two more tech-savvy than Don (), but I always clear private data like cache, cookies, etc before closing Firefox (in the past, when i'd reopen firefox (withOUT clearing that stuff) it would always "mark posts read" - rendering my UserCP and the New Posts link useless.)

Also, the address of the tab it showed up on was - http://forum.dvdtalk.com/index.php . Up until this instance, i'd never seen it before.

I don't have any extra information or anything, but it happened again here at work earlier this morning, just like I said before.

I rarely need to use Flash, but when I do I just open another browser such as Firefox to view that content. But I don't want it by default. The same thing that allows Flash to run opens up too many other possible exploits.
i was wondering why i haven't seen this AT ALL over the last few days. if it is indeed Flash, then it's because i have the FlashBlock Firefox Extension installed. it basically puts a 'play' button on all flash content, and you could decide what you want to play or not.

My Active-X warnings are gone also. Looks like you've got a handle on it. Might want to upgrade or re-install Flashplayer, Shockwave, QuickTime or any other "safe" ActiveX modules in case they were also corrupted.

I don't have flash block but I only had it happen once before I blocked those cookies (today).

I might need to re-install that flash block.

That makes it that much more puzzling as to why I only got it once and others have been getting it every time they come on here.

I was thinking that too. I've never gotten it on my home computer, just one time at work. But I downloaded the NoScript for firefox just to be safe.

I suggest that you install CCleaner. Set it up to not delete the cookies that you like and then let it rip. It will clean out your cookies, cache, temp files, recent document lists, and plenty more.

CCleaner also has a registry cleaning tool that will remove the registry changes that are not referenced by the programs that you currently have installed.
