Rather than this, my suggestion was to have a single adult sub-forum for press releases allowed by G! as a great many other websites have provided. By doing so, it would provide a central focal point for those who might care for them and keep the trolls from posting in them (the ones that hate porn, press releases, or particular members of this community). The original idea was G! would set it up so that only approved companies could post there (along with the usual mods & admin staff). To change the idea to separate threads would open the door to having the hundreds of companies in porn own their own threads (something that could cause a few of the more vocal members to go postal again) and potentially flood the forum (which I think is a point that most of us would agree is a bad idea).

The companies could post an acceptable pic or two per release to liven them up and I think that would keep traffic levels just fine (without all the "great pic" messages that follow). I still think that members who don't like messages without any potential content should simply set on ignore the ones they take issue with (or avoid threads started by those people) rather than beat them up continuously just as I still think that members representing companies should be able to answer questions as they see fit in other messages (IE: not limited to strictly press releases in the new sub-forum) but that is up to G! (feel free to use the term all you like Ped...lol).

Bus, I think your definition is by far the most common of the two but arguing definitions with some of these folks is like arguing politics or religion.

I see your point. However, your freelance programming is not a product that people here on the board regularly purchase (nor is this board about programming).

Shane's World and Vivid release DVDs. I have never (and will never) be a customer of theirs, but it adds some value to have a place where their customers can have a two-way conversation with them.

The subforum for press releases would be ok with me too.

I'm not sure how successful it would be though. They did that in the Video Game forum, and it died pretty fast as it was getting few views and even fewer posts.

But its worth a shot, if people don't view the sub forum then it will show there is no demand here for it. If they do, then it keeps the shill-like posts all in one place just for those that want to see them.

I will note that in the video game announcements sub forum and mod/reviewer posted all the press releases, not company shills. But I'm not sure that makes much difference since people can just avoid the subforum either way, much easier than they can multiple shill posts in the main forum area.

Well, my point was that by doing so, it would offer a compromise between the two main ideas that were largely mutually exclusive. If it dies out, that would show the companies a lot better that the numbers here don't support such releases (as it stands, other threads get buried by the back and forth arguments the handful of opponents and supporters in such threads now; making some sort of change a good idea). I suggested they offer allowable pictures of the R-rated kind (nudity seems really, really popular in the adult forum from what I've seen) since that might spice things up too but ultimately it would show that despite the claims by a few, management listens to everyone and acts in a reasonable fashion.

Just as reasonable accomodations have been made with regard to the adult reviews and adult forum posts, similar accomodations can be made for other hot button topics that don't cater too heavily to the vocal minority. It struck me as being fair to all and favoring none, a few of my detractors discussing it via email with me as sounding better than they expected out of me.

PS: I dug up the vB code list page just to make a few happy but even my upgraded Firefox does not see any quote buttons; something I share with a number of others given the search I did on the topic here.

The problem is that you only allow images to load from the originating website. The quote button is located on the ad server. To see the button you must enable your browser to load the image from the ad server.

If you go to "Tools -> Options", click on the "Content tab, and uncheck "for the originating website only" under "Load images", you will see the quote button when you reload the page.

I'm glad you figured out how to use [QUO<b></b>TE] and [/QUO<b></b>TE]. You may have had an interesting point within your posts but your formatting prevents me from easily reading them. Many others may have the same problem.

I appreciate the assistance (I've long known "how" to use the quote code but it's a pain without the ease of the button). Unfortunately, I didn't have the "for the originating website only" checked when I just looked it up. I always tell myself that I'll play with it when I catch up with my review stack but as you might have noticed, that never happens since each week brings in another 15 to 18 titles from G!. Without sounding flippant, if my choice is between keeping the website running and giving people a head's up on new titles or making my forum posts slightly easier to read, my sense of priorities will always be the former.

A quick glance at what has been written in the thread pretty much sums up the two major "sides" of the issue; my off board attempts have been to set something up that serves to constructively provide a compromise that most can live with rather than draw a line in the sand. Again, thanks for trying to help out, I have another stack of (mostly) porn to begin working on.

So I don't read the Adult Forum (that's my story, anyway), but I do remember that back in the day, we had Martin Blythe from Paramount who would start threads telling us about Paramounts upcoming plans, answering questions, getting feedback, that sort of thing. That was really cool, and I wish we had more studio reps (and corporate store reps, and video game publisher reps, and music reps, and ...) posting in the appropriate forums.

Now, if studio reps do drive-by posts where they simply post "Snakes on a Boat goes straight to DVD on May 15 -- buy it!" and never stick around to interact with posters, that's uncool. At the other end of the spectrum is if they start threads like "We're thinking of releasing a special edition DVD of Glitter -- what kinds of features would people like to see?" and then stick around to interact with posters -- well, that's cool and valuable and adds to the forum.

Like Geoff said a few pages back, it's a fine line, and it's probably more art than science figuring out who is on which side of the line. Like I said, I don't really read the Adult Forum, so I don't know which side of the line Howard falls on, but I have to think that if he can stay on the correct side of the line, he's a valuable addition to DVDTalk.
