Mods, please open this thread back up....

There was only one reason to close that thread. Clean it up and open it back up. Everything else was civil in there. It's not fair that one jerk ruins a good discussion between many members.

That thread was going suprisingly well, especially since it involved religion. I'd like the opportunity to respond (on topic).

LOCKED UNTIL WE HAVE TIME TO SORT THROUGH THIS ALL... potentially it'll be locked for good though.
Looks like the mods are already on top of it, just didn't give Nemein enough time to add his post after closing the thread before starting this one.

Yeah, I was going to post something on topic too, but I got distracted doing something else, and when I finally came back to post, I found a friggin' trainwreck.

Ditto. I was typing up my response and hit submit, and BANG...locked. Hopefully it will get cleaned up and opened back up.

Yes, it was a good thread that deserves to be reopened.

People really need to stop taking the bait when certain members start going off like that, it only encourages them.

What do you do that you are around so much? I'm guessing IT Director/Manager....it seems like a popular profession around these parts!

btw...to stay on topic: Why was he suspended and not banned? It isn't like he said one thing in passing, he blatantly went off the deep end with no regard for rules.

Graduate research assistant working on a Ph D.

My time fluctuates. Some days I'm super busy, other days I'm not at all. Today is one of the latter as I'm caught up and waiting on some other people to get their shit done so I can move forward.

That's what it looked like to me. If behavior like cussing at people, calling them saggy, and telling them to drink cum doesn't get you banned, then I don't see how anything would.

Almost everytime I've seen someone banned, it's shown them as suspended for a while then switches to banned.

Not sure why though. Maybe the mods have to discuss bannings as a group in most cases or something.

I disagree that "everyone else was civil", but then again, of course you would think that. We all know why he went off on you, HappyCamper, Scorcho, and the other Islanders. You guys are doing a witchhunt over at the Island trying to figure out who's telling me the crap you're posting there about me, and you're so far off on who you're blaming, it's laughable.

Deftones, just because I don't feel the need to get into a long, extensive conversation with you about ANYTHING (especially something like religion where you are mocking and belittling, not trying to actually understand someone else's point of view... witness your obsessive focus on my use of smileys, like that somehow negates my words), doesn't mean my point of view is not valid.

Also, if you spend enough time rabidly attacking me on another board (why you kids would CARE enough to attack me, I don't understand, but that's another discussion...), it's GOING to bleed over to this board. I have friends at both places, and some of them don't like to hear me being attacked.

Geoff, you met me in person, and you know I'm a reasonable person. Tool lost his temper, and that's not worth a banning. I'm hoping you reconsider.

shoppingbear - I think you've been given bad, or at least very exaggerated, info. Regardless, Tool did more than lose his temper, he deliberately engaged in a sustained attack against a number of people for reasons that have nothing to do with this forum.

As for the thread itself, I was enjoying the back-and-forth which was, IMO, civilized for the most part. Religion can be a very emotional issue, but it was being handled in an adult way until off topic issues derailed the thread.

That thread was one of the funniest reads I've had in a while. If it is not reopened, please archive it at least.

Ummm, if you look at thread, particularly posts 14 and 17, who is the one not being civil? Who is mocking and belittling? Deftones responded to someone else making a respectful statement of his own beliefs. You responded to him, laughing at his post, saying that he had so many inaccuracies you didn't know where to begin, and cracking that nobody would look to him for guidance.

And yet you have the nerve to come in here and act like he started mocking and belittling you in that thread?

I don't know you at all, nor you me, but trust me, defending Deftones is not one of my favorite pasttimes. And damn you for making me do it!

The easiest course of action would be for someone who wants to continue the discussion to start a new thread.

Done. Come on over, folks. It's called "Let's Talk Jesus (Please, no cum drinking discussion)".

Bando, that's not true, although you might not know that I know what's been said. Oh wait: you're one of the people asking who's telling me stuff, so you DO know I'm aware of what's being said.

Regardless, I have no issue with you, and I'm not defending why Tool did what he did (nor have I)... I'm just adding background, for those (admittedly probably few) who don't know the background.

LurkerDan, you have a good point, and I'm sorry if it came across that way... I still maintain that out of all the posts in that thread, Deftones's posts were the most unsubstantiated and general, so his were the ones I noticed. I was adding the smileys because 1)that's what I do and 2)I was TRYING to keep the tone light.

Oh, and a bigger apology for forcing you to defend Deftones, that must've been painful..
