Talk about taking all your marbles and going home - this jerk obviously doesn't play well with others, and his disrespect for everyone who posted in that thread is an insult to us all.

Hopefully if this dork starts any new threads, one of us will be able to jump right in and post a warning that the entire thread is subject to deletion by the OP if he doesn't like what people are saying.

Only Mods and Admins should be allowed to delete threads. :-/

He seems to start A LOT of movie review threads, so I would also suggest that not only should the threads he starts be avoided, but until the "delete a thread" rule is changed (if ever), movie review threads should be started by someone who won't delete them if people disagree with something and any movie threads started by shelton should be ignored.

Yeah, this sounds a lot like the townspeople taking to the streets with clubs and torches, but dammit!, I saw WotW yesterday and REALLY looked forward to coming here and getting into a lively discussion in the review thread about how crappy I thought the movie was and I'm searching and searching and then this morning I find out that this had deleted the thread because people didn't agree with him or some such nonsense? Please!! Isn't there an age minimum for forum members??

Yeah, I won't be wasting my time in any more of his threads either. What's the point in deleting it?

I don't think that there was anything wrong with the WotW thread. He just deleted it to piss people off as somebody else mentioned because he was getting blasted in his Fantastic Four Review thread which its gone also.

He deleted the thread in retaliation for his Fantastic Four thread where he basically told people to fuck off because they were ragging on him for his "review". Good choice of words there, buddy!

I concur. Scott Shelton should not have the ability to delete his own threads.

That really bites. I was holding off on reading that beast of a thread until I actually got a chance to see WotW - but now I guess i can't... unless there's a way to undelete it?

I guess is a safe bet that he won't be posting in this forum after this "stunt".

He hasn't been suspended or banned as of yet, so I don't think he will. He'll be back. These types of posters always come back.

That really sucks. I wanted to read the rest of the F4 board (I was really curious as to hear him detail what he didn't like about it) and I really enjoyed the WOTW thread. The latter was the best thread I've seen in terms of a polarized film and people clearly expressing why they liked/disliked the film. I'm really sad to see it go.

I think for safety's sake, no user that is not a mod should have the ability to delete threads. It was a good idea at first (made it easy on the mods if duplicate thread starters deleted there own threads when pointed to an already exisiting thread about the same topic) but this incident has clearly proven that it's too much of a risk. And that's not factoring in human error.

So I too hope the WOTW thread can be undeleted and that only mods are allowed to delete threads.

Gah! I was proud of my little review. Probably my most well written yet. BLASTED!

Isn't there some way for Geoff to revive it? I can't see it just falling off the forum, without backup.

Very mature, dude. You sure your name isn't really "Pants"? (A flashback for old DVDTalkers)
Hmmm. I wasn't going to be the one who said it. But ... yea.

I haven't felt like punching a DVDTalker in the arm since That Duck Guy (I think that was his name). NICE BARGAIN!

This blows. But I'm 99% sure that an Administrator can fetch a deleted thread.

Can the software be configured to remove the "delete" option on the first post of a thread? If so, that seems to be the easiest solution -- both for situations like this (poster throwing his toys and deleting a 14-page thread) and for human error (like the accidental deletion of the 90+ page Episode III spoiler thread a few months back).

If I create a thread and edit it within a certain amount of time, I can change the thread's title. After that window has passed, the thread's title will not change.

if you're within that window, I think the thread creator should be able to delete his thread.

I've always wished it could be a post count thing. If a thread has more than, say, 10 posts in it, it can no longer be deleted by someone who isn't a mod/admin. It would suck for the whole forum to not be able to do something just because a few individuals are too childish to act responsibly. And frankly, I'd be inclined to support such actions as a bannable offense.

At the very least he should be suspended.

Both the suggestions by RoyalTea and das Monkey make more sense than mine.

Both of them give you the option to delete an accidental thread yourself (either with a time limit or a response limit) -- but would prevent you from deleting a major thread, either accidentally or from some sort of childish behavior. And, yes, deleting a 14-page thread because you're mad at people should be a bannable (or at least, suspendable) offense.

I see no reason for someone who's seen an early screening to wait until the release date to start a review thread. The problem is, that here, unlike the HTF, we have catch-all threads for current movies and not separate "review" and "discussion" threads.
