And again from 1:55 to 1:58pm Eastern. Thanks Geoff, we know you guys are trying, and we certainly aren't going away or anything.

AGuyNamedMike 07-25-05 03:06 PM

This is new, I wasn't even able to get to the domain just now, for almost 3 minutes. Then I could, but slowly. Here is a traceroute:

AGuyNamedMike 07-27-05 12:21 PM

Slow and semi-responsive 1:20-1:23pm Eastern.

das Monkey 07-27-05 12:52 PM

Most of the last hour has been pretty rough.

GeoffK 07-27-05 01:48 PM

just rebooted the db, still sleuthing the source of the evil slowness

The Infidel 07-27-05 01:48 PM

Same here, yet again.

Josh H 07-28-05 01:36 PM

Gettting it again now 2:30ish eastern.

GeoffK 07-28-05 11:10 PM

not that it'll fix everything but I did do a rev upgrade on the forum software. Seems like it wasn't getting along with the version of MySql we're running.

There's also another major upgrade in the works which is in the release candidate phase, so we'll look at going to that as soon as it's released. Hopefully it'll help this phantom slowness problem.

ianholm 07-29-05 07:51 AM

VERY slow this morning.

Y2K Falcon 07-29-05 08:37 AM

Just throwing another idea out there, cause this happened to me once.

Did you in any way change the available searches: adding a new one, changing how one works?

We added a search once that hosed the system when any user accessed it. He'd get to the top of the database's work queue, and just monopolize the DB's time, creating multi-locks in his wake until the badly written query was complete... We finally rewrote it, after creating an index to make it faster.

Just for kicks:

Xander 07-29-05 10:26 AM

Horribly slow this morning for me. Taking about 30 seconds to open a thread or go to a next page.

LorenzoL 07-29-05 10:40 AM

Likewise for me too.

slop101 07-29-05 10:43 AM

Same here - it's so slow, that I thought the servers were down, or something.

GeoffK 07-29-05 11:03 AM

We're working on it. Still no idea why this is happening.

auto 07-29-05 11:21 AM

Ugghhhhhh......

This is killing me. I find myself actually doing work...at work.

adamblast 07-29-05 11:39 AM

Good luck on the troubleshooting, Geoff! (I'm getting database errors a-plenty, and taking a minute to open any page when it dpes work...)

GeoffK 07-29-05 01:57 PM

Work continues. We might be doing a big prune/archive of the db... not sure. Also other optimizations of the DB apps on the site.

Never a dull moment.

twikoff 07-29-05 02:19 PM

Happy Sysadmin day

LorenzoL 07-31-05 08:02 AM

I'm experiencing slowdowns on and off today. I'm not sure if this is part of the troubleshooting that Geoff indicated.

boss429 07-31-05 10:13 AM

Slow for me on and off this morning also.

Pharoh 08-02-05 03:51 PM

Not sure if this is a related issue, but starting yesterday evening, the forum, and sometimes my computer, will hang hang up for quite some time when I submit replies to certain threads, (likely the randomness of the problem).

Josh H 08-02-05 10:05 PM

Yeah, hanging on replies has happened intermittedly to me as well over the past week or so.

The Infidel 08-03-05 03:44 AM

This.....is.....RIDICULOUS!!!!!!!

GeoffK 08-03-05 11:00 AM

The forum WILL be very slow in the middle of the night when we do our backups (1am or so PDT).

Kumar J 08-04-05 01:47 AM

Keep up the good work Geoff.Mozilla Firefox runs fine now

AGuyNamedMike 08-11-05 07:45 AM

The adventure continues...

Just had the forum go unresponsive from 8:45 to 8:47am eastern. Still it seems to be happening less frequently.

Numanoid 08-11-05 11:07 AM

I've been noticing very serious "pauses" for the last two days.

Mopower 08-15-05 03:35 PM

More slowness today. Don't know the frequency but it's been different times throughout the day. Big one around 3:35-3:40ish central time.

AGuyNamedMike 08-17-05 09:51 AM

General forum slowness and unresponsiveness all morning.

AGuyNamedMike 08-18-05 01:57 PM

Short period of unresponsiveness just now, 2:59 to 3:01pm Eastern.

GeoffK 08-18-05 03:24 PM

still trying to figure out what the heck is causing this.

Preacher 08-18-05 06:06 PM

Forum VERY normal currently

Just to let everyone know that it's all fine. Speed seems good. Hangups are minor. Everything seems to be running well. No complaints. Hope to see this continue for quite a time in the future. It's all good.

Not even thinking of travelling back in time to eliminate Josh Hinkle from existance, just so any like minded threads never see the light of day. Not thinking it at all.

Thank you.

Preacher 08-18-05 10:54 PM

I been edited sumbitchingly.

:notworthy:

The Edit King 08-20-05 11:55 PM

Sometimes (while editing a post) it'll take pretty near one entire minute (or more) to get back to the thread.

-Pableetoe Tres

Josh H 08-21-05 10:35 AM

I'm having a similar problem when submitting replies or edits. It will hang for a minute or two (browser says "not responding") then it snaps out of it and the post goes through.

Not happening everytime, but have had it happen a handful of times each of the past few days.

Josh H 08-23-05 12:46 PM

I'm having the problem with replies/edits taking forever again. Seems to happen more in some threads than others.

Really seems like either a major database or server problem. Last time I noticed it was right before the server died.

Mopower 08-23-05 12:59 PM

Slowness is really bad today. Maybe we should just let Geoff know when the site is working correctly?

Rogue588 08-23-05 01:10 PM
