Not sure why, it's just always been that way.

I can understand not allowing attacks on banned or suspended people since they can't post in their defense

We have only discouraged discussion about specifics involving a person who is not able to respond, and may feel compelled to. On one hand, it seems like a fairer policy for the members of the banned. And on the other hand, it means less work for us as we don't have to deal with that person signing up again to reply, or emailing us about the discussion.
I don't see a problem with discussing why people in general might get banned and where the lines are. In fact, I think I was just doing that in this thread.

Hey, I fully deserve the "punishment" I got, but I still also feel there is a bias against and in favor of members of DVDTalk. Even if it's not explicit, the sheer subjective nature of "should I suspend him or not" has, at its very core, bias.
"Dick" to one moderator might be WAY over the line; "dick" to another might not even register a blip on the radar.
Either way, anyone suspended can't "bitch" anyway -- they lose their "privileges" to post on DVDTalk for the duration of their suspension. If you think what I'm doing is "bitching" then that is unfortunate.

I imagine he'll be banned from Dead's reply in that thread, and the blatant nature of his offending posts. It seems most of the time someone's status shows suspended for a while and then banned.
Maybe banning takes a few mods agreeing first or something, while anyone mod can suspdend a user?

You have to wonder, how many times do you need to hit the dogs nose with the newspaper till they don't shit on the carpet.
That was a pretty hardcore personal attack that streched across a couple of post.
