Double checking.. am I allowed to ask this?

I would like to ask for advice on how to go about ripping songs from a cd and then burning a custom list back to a cd. I did a search for "ripping" and it appears we are allowed to talk about that but I just wanted to confirm before asking (couldn't find a thread that gave step by step instructions in idiot proof language).
