Sorry, didn't mean to try to single out that you have the answer (bad post on my part). I'd love to not have the problem.

Just wanted to keep notice that this is a new thing since the new software. It may have been a problem in the past, but it's definitely a problem for a bunch of people since the new version.

It's most likely a vBulletin issue, but us peeps feel better to here that others are having the suck. It's really not a big deal at all. Logging in every day or so is just an annoyance, we just like to bitch about every little thing (as you probably know)

At first I thought my problem w/ staying logged in is related to this problem which many Firefox users (myself included) have been experiencing with some web-sites and which (as far as I can tell) remains unsolved, but it's interesting that on this board even IE users are having this problem.

For some reason I could close all my browsers and stay logged in when I opened one.

Not sure why.

Maybe it is or was related to some ad being run that when triggered logged us out somehow?

Probably a long shot.

I am going to try rebooting and see if it lasts

wish me luck.

Still logged in after a reboot

Funny thing is that did nothing to change it

- next day and another Logon

I guess I just had one lucky day.

Yes, but as a persistent problem it was with a considerably smaller number of people and for a considerably shorter period of time.

Glad to hear that Geoff is looking into this further as this has been really irritating.

What's strange about my situation is that I now only seem to get logged out when I log in from my laptop at home. My home desktop and work desktop keep me logged in.

I've lost countless posts, including another one tonight. I try to remember to make a copy of every post I write before hitting submit, but after nearly 6 years of not having to do that, it's just instinct to hit submit. I've lost so many (long) posts that I decided to not bother posting here until this problem is fixed, but there was a request that I provide some aid in a thread tonight, so here I am.

Tonight, I was simply responding to a few posts within the same thread, without switching to a different browser window or to a different application.

It's VERY aggravating.

Looks like my home PC is operating properly again. I cleared all cookies and temporary internet files again, but it seems to have taken this time. Only been a day, but I didn't have to log in to post this.

I'll be testing my work computer when I go in tomorrow. *crosses fingers*

After being unable to post for 2 days - I'm glad I came across this thread.

I cleared my cookies and cache - and I was just able to log in and actually post!

Before, I could log in, but when I went to submit a post, I was redirected to log in once again. So, looks like I'm almost back in the game. At least it's working for now.

Running WinXP with IE6.

My laptop and home computers work fine. My work computer logs me out after a while, no matter if the remember login box is checked. Using IE6 and Maxthon browsers.

For those people who are able to stay logged in, could you check your cookies to see when they expire? I use Firefox and just checked my cookies for this web site. bbpassword and bbuserid are the two cookies I checked. It seems like there are 2 cookies for bbpassword and 2 for bbuserid. And the expiration date is either January 6, 2006 or Jun 6, 2005. Has anyone else notice this in their cookie manager?

The relevant cookie looks to me to be [your login name]@www.dvdtalk.com.

Mine expires 12/31/2019.

I didn't have to log in at work!

It took 2 days to clear out my temp. internet files (because my work computer is old and slow and locked up a lot ), and I don't know if that did it or it was deleting all cookies instead of just the ones that had dvdtalk in them, but I seem to be up and running again.

Instead of just deleting cookies from *.dvdtalk.com on my Firefox 1.0, a couple of days ago I gave up and went and deleted ALL my cookies. This seems to help with my log in problem. I was able to stay logged in since that time. I don't know why deleting cookies from just the *.dvdtalk.com site didn't work before. But deleting ALL cookies seem to work so far. So for those people having problem stayed logged in, you might wan to try this and see if it helps.

You might check for a cookie named [your login name]@www.dvdtalk.com in your Temporary Internet Files folder. I moved my cookies out of the Cookies folder into a temporary folder, logged out and then back in to Windows, came here and logged in and found that there was a new cookie in the Temporary Internet Files folder set to expire one year from today. I moved my cookies back to the Cookies folder and some weirdness went away.

I just checked my 'Temporary Internet Files' directory and 'Cookies' directory in my C:\Windows subdirectory. There isn't any files at all in either of those two directories. Are you using IE6? Maybe Firefox store temporary internet files differently from IE6?

Firefox puts them somewhere different than IE6.

For IE6, depending on your OS, those files would be under Documents and Settings -> [your Windows login name] -> Local Settings.

However you probably won't even see the directories unless you've told Windows Explorer to show hidden files and folders in its folder options.

Ok, I moved all my cookies out and I got 2 cookies after I logged into DVD Talk.

This is with IE6 and Windows 2000. I would think Windows XP would have have the files in the same place.

One was in Documents and Settings -> [your Windows login name] -> Cookies. It was called [your Windows login name]@dvdtalk[1].txt

One was in Documents and Settings -> [your Windows login name] -> Local Settings -> Temporary Internet Files. It was called Cookie:[your Windows login name]@dvdtalk.com/

So you might try exiting IE, deleting those cookies, and then logging into DVD Talk to see if it will give you the proper cookies. Or just delete all your cookies and temporary internet files from within IE.

I thought it was just me!!

I have to log in everytime I start a session on my home computer. I am not getting logged out during my time of reading and posting, but each time I close IE it logs me off.

My work computer is fine - I have not logged in at work since April when I started there.
