Re: Opinions on a threadcrap....
Sorry to bump this thread, but why is dx23 allowed to publicly attack other members in the Forum Feedback section instead of just reporting the offending posts to a moderator?

Re: Opinions on a threadcrap....
It was a half-joke. There was no need to call out either member publicly in this thread, just as there was no need to bump a six- and seven-year-old thread, respectively, to do so. The report button exists for a reason.

Re: Opinions on a threadcrap....
This thread was bumped a year ago when a member was being obnoxious. I reported him several times, but nothing was done until I bumped this thread and subsequently he was banned from the forum. I bumped it again this year when a similar situation happened with wm lopez. For the moment, wm lopez has calmed down and made posts more relevant to the topic. I don't see anything wrong with that and it seems that most of the others members agreed with me.

Re: Opinions on a threadcrap....
Perhaps you should start using this thread to call out the moderators who ignore your reported posts, then. ;)

Re: Opinions on a threadcrap....
dg3 came in a just derailed the thread with his trolling and threadcrapping. I reported it, but don't know if the mods got the report.

Re: Opinions on a threadcrap....
I should say that it doesn't help when members feed a troll but it is also unwise for a frustrated member to start moderating a thread him or herself.
RTPTAM [http://forum.dvdtalk.com/images/buttons/report.gif]is the first and most useful way of notifying mods of a problem post/thread. However. members should think carefully before going overboard with RTPTAMs as this can result in the message being diluted e.g. if someone is testing/bending the rules, by all means make a note of the posts and, if it looks like a real pattern is emerging, send an all-in-one report after a week or two. Occasionally a mod is taking care of Real Life and may not see a RTPTAM for some time. In such circumstances, say if 3-4 days have passed, or the situation has got much worse, you can escalate by way of a PM to one of the Admins. Following any report there may be delay while a matter is being discussed in the Mod Forum. No sign of immediate action is not in and of itself a sign that no action is underway. Having said this, it is not always agreed that action is required: sometimes DVDTalk posting guidelines have not been broken; sometimes action is taken but in a manner that may not immediately be clear to members generally. Although posting here in Feedback remains an option, ideally, IMNSHO, it should be a last resort i.e. only if a problem poster is clearly and repeatedly breaking the rules following RTPTAM/PMs over a period of several weeks. Throughout all of this, please DO bear in mind that moderating is essentially a spare time activity - volunteers are not always in a position to act as swiftly as some may expect. I am now closing this thread to avoid the onset of frivolous posting. |
