How about, for paying members, an option not to censor words? Most people paying with credit card are 18+
I like those ideas although the uncensored words could only be in the paid member forum. maybe even have tasteful user selected titles.

I like the option for PM being enabled.

avatars maybe for paid members?

maybe put the post count back for paid members

1) Paid members would get an 'AD FREE" version of the forum
2) We'd have a special private forum area for Paid Members
No more popups? Sign me up!

Still working on it... But I'm open to ideas. So post your suggestions.
How about photo hosting for use on this forum?

FWIW, since I have quite a few less members than Geoff has to deal with, I offered subscriptions at my forum (sd-1.com) - the benefits are few now, but I plan on moving to a dedicated server and offering more features - hosting (images & web pages), etc. Right now, for $10/year, I offer the following:

http://www.sd-1.com/subscribe.html

Perhaps some of the ideas there would work here. Of course, I handle all the subscriptions manually and it might be out of hand if Geoff tried to do that.

Is that really your forum? My wife found that a couple weeks ago because she loves Alias, and I was mocking her for reading that

Isn't it a no-no to promote your own forum? Closing thread. Oh wait, nevermind.

i think the private forum might be a bad idea. It'll just splinter the members. I'm sure some inside joke or reference would seep into the main forums and the regular members would be confused. Also, depending on what the private forum topic was it could either lead to a lot of duplicate threads or a lot of people not being interested (for example many DVD Talk regulars might not care for a members only version of the Other Forum).

I think the only way it might work is to make Other or Mature or another of the "popular" forums private. Not sure how good that would be since it wouldnt' really bring new members into those forums.

Isn't that what used to happen anyway? Inside jokes being carried too far? Well...then again, all that drama WAS over a year ago...

In all seriousness, I'm all for a membership fee (yearly? monthly?) that allows you to have no pop-ups, avatars and maybe even some simple picture hosting. I agree that having a private, "paying members only" forum might be a bit too much.
