Oh no, don't get me wrong, its not like I don't trust or am questioning the admins here.
So its usually used to track returning banned members and squills(sp?)?
I'm also curious if its been used to track down suspicious members - such as those who ask about dvd copying, bootlegs, barely legal pron, and voyeurism etc. Remember that Fatwallet thing last year where companies tried to get info on members that posted some black sunday ads or something.
Does an admin have to consider the legal responsibility? Like "Hmm, well, that guy must be up to no good! Maybe I should report this activity to the proper authorities - such as the local law enforcement."
Don't worry, I'm not expecting too many serious responses.
<small>Oh and for the record, I have nothing to hide.

I am sure if some company was threatening Geoff with a lawsuit to get IP addresses, he'd sing like a canary.

Back when I was a mod, the IP Address Black Market was pretty tempting. I think demand for squill IP addresses has really slowed down lately, so I wouldn't worry about it too much at this point.

Almost exclusively we use IP information to manage track and deal with problem members. We have a pretty extensive privacy policy which we do follow:

Whoa. Good read.
Okay, but I was also curious if it has ever been necessary to take any legal action against a member? Or nothing that serious has occurred to your knowledge that required such action. Just wondering what the extents of a mod's legal responsilbilities are. Or you wish to keep that detail undercover which is understandable.
