Proxy Problems - Has Something Changed?

DVD Talk has all of a sudden started to wreak havoc on the proxy we use at work (as of the last 2 hours). It's so bad, I've had to disable it just to post this message, but my boss would get pretty pissed if I did that on a regular basis. Was there a change made behind the scenes that may shed some light on this subject?

Thanks.

What exactly is wreak havoc, can you be more specific?

I use Proxymitron at home, and DVDTalk causes it to crash every I log in. This started yesterday, and happens with no other site.

I thought it was just me until I saw this thread. I can't give details, since I'm not there right now.

I wish I could. It's causing non-specific page faults and "memory can't be written" errors when clicking on a link. Nothing has changed on our system, and DVD Talk seems to be the only place where this is happening. I was hoping you knew of something that had been done behind the scenes, so I could better try to investigate the problem. As it is now, I don't know where to begin.

I use Proxomitron at home as well, but I didn't have any trouble posting around 5am-6am EST.

P.S. While screwing around with this, I noticed that the link for The Aisle View on the main www.dvdtalk.com page is wrong and tries to send you to http://www.aisleview.com/index.html (which just redirects to the main page) instead of http://www.dvdtalk.com/aisleview/index.html

Well we have now changed routers, so I'd say clear your cache out of your proxy server and see what happens. Also I fixed the link fot the aisle view.

I had actually cleared my cache and reinstalled the software before contacting you, but I'm at home now, so I'll have to check again tomorrow.

Strangely, now that I'm home and using the Proxomitron, everything is just fine. It will be interesting to hear from <B>Groucho</B> to see if he's still having trouble. Perhaps this is one of those many odd things that disappears with no explanation.

I'm having problems running the Proximitron and having it crash when loading the site. (the error that comes up with it is a memory read error)

I used my firewall (Tiny Firewall) to process each outgoing connection request, and the one server that seemed to be creating the problem was when it tried to connect to: 66.181.171.71 , which seems to be part of counted.com

When I put that in the proxy bypass list, everything is fine and I can't get it to crash.(I did about 40 reloads) Take it out, and it'll crash. It doesn't happen for EVERY page, but maybe 1 out of 3 pages or so.

Proxomitron does have a log window, but sadly it doesn't log to a file, and crashes when the program crashes, so I can't see the specific http request that is going out that causes it to bomb.

I don't know why it's happening or what's causing it, but it seems to be that one server. Anyone else that can confirm this being the problem ? For now just bypassing it seems to fix the problem, but that doesn't seem like much of a solution ...

I don't want to jinx it (JINX!!!, *knocks on wood*, tosses salt over shoulder), but I'm back at work, and everything is running smoothly again ... for now.

<B>Groucho</B>, <B>UWSarge</B>, still having problems?

Yeah, still having problems as of late last night. Doing the bypass on that one IP is the only way I'm keeping it from crashing.

Sounds to me like problems with the service we use for stats 'Counted'. I'll continue to look into the problem today

Geoff,

Did you just make changes today? I just removed my bypass and can't get the crash to occur after 2 dozen reloads.

I was having the same problem that UWSarge and Groucho were having (use Proximatron at home), and today they cleared up. Yay!

Update from my front too. Everything was fine with my proxy at work; now I'm home, and everything is dandy with Proxomitron as well. If you did something to fix it, thanks. If not ... uh ... thanks anyway?

I think it's another problem with COUNTED our stats program, I'll look in to it.

So you know it's not isolated, I too was having problems last night around midnight ET. They were much less frequent than the issue that generated this thread, probably every 15 pageloads or so. Things appear to be running smoothly now.

Here's a possible clue that it just might be COUNTED.

For several days now, at random times, I've been getting this message in my status bar:

Downloading picture http://bilbo.counted.com/230/2/3082/... [bunch of numeric dirs].

I'm not able to click on a link on the page until it finally finishes downloading or I stop page loading.

The source of the problems ARE Counted. Which seems to be working better now

I've been having issues with the counted.com thing today (6/1).... and it's never given me problems before. Every page is trying so hard to load the counted.com info that browsing and clinking links is 'stuttered'.

Me too. I have to hit escape to be able to click on another link within 30 seconds or so.

It's been off and on for almost a week now.
