I didnt misread it. I merely used that comment to make a more generalized comment. Hence the "Anyone".

Doing so had no relevence in the thread as no one had mentioned anything about leaving gaming if Nintendo left the hardware business.

There was no way anyone would just take that as a random generalization when that topic hadn't been brought up and I was the only person that had mentioned anything about possibly quitting gaming period.

You have to be more careful and less inflammatory when posting on the net. It's too easy to be misinterpreted.

You could have simply said something like "I don't think many people will quit gaming over set top boxes." And got the point across that I was in the minority without adding inflammatory comments like "Brand loyalist consumer" and "not a real gamer."

It's not just you though, that's just typical of the internet in general. People can't just say they disagree with someone. They have to throw in some insult aimed directly at everyone or at everyone holding the belief that differs from their own.

I was just hoping you'd see why the remark was offensive to me, and apologize for posting it and resulting in us both getting suspended.

I apologize for over-reacting and making matters worse, but if you had been more reasonable in expressing your disagreement there would have been no problems.

I could have but thats not what I think. It is IMO overly loyal to abandon an entire product because one manufacturer stops making it. Thats not an insult its my opinion.

I wasnt suspended for saying that. I was suspended for my response to you calling me stupid. Youre the only one who seems to think I was trying to insult you.

Maybe you see insults where none are intended.

Why can't you get this through your head. This is the entire problem here and in the original thread. I never said anything about any company. It was a set top box issue. Nintendo just came up because they've stated they're committed to gaming only machines. I clearly stated that I'd also be happy if they quit and MS or Sony put out a gaming only machine in addition to their set-top boxes. There's no way to construe that as "abandoning an entire product because one manufacture stops making it." It's abandoning gaming because all manufactures stopped making gaming-only machines. It has nothing to do with brand names. If Nintendo put out a set top box, I'd be just as upset and just as unlikely to buy it. And again, no one else had said anything about leaving gaming in the entire thread, so the generalization excuse doesn't hold water.

I realize that. I was simply saying that if you had been more careful in wording your first reply (i.e. leaving out the baseless consumerist comment) I wouldn't have jumped on you and called you stupid, hence you wouldn't have replied to that, and neither of us would have been suspended. When posting on the internet you have to take a moment and think if what you're typing could be taken as offensive to anyone, and alter your posts accordingly. I think it's pretty obviously that no one (other than admitted fanboys) wants to be called a "brand loyalist consumer" even in an indirect manner.

You don't see the insult. Just because you didn't mean it as an insult doesn't mean it wasn't insulting to me. I'm very anti-consumerism, and had posted nothing to warrant the comment (as explained numerous times in this thread).

I apologize for hijacking the thread.

I just still had something of a grudge over this argument that was never finished, and from the first post by jolt, I could see that he still did as well, and hoped we could talk it out so we're both not thinking "f'ing prick got me suspended" everytime we see each others name.

Unfortunately, no.

I do feel better to have at least attempted to settle the argument though.

It was pretty clear to me that he not only meant it in a joking manner, but that he was including himself in the reference as well.

The exchange does, ironically, pretty well demonstrate why there's such a low tolerance policy in the Video Game forum.

In closing, I would just point out a couple things...the suspensions were for insults you hurled at each other after the two posts that Josh is concentrating on...but while it is possible to argue that jolt shouldn't have used that wording, it's just as easy to say that Josh (as he has done since the end of his suspension) didn't have to post his response to it and could have just lodged a complaint with the moderators.

Also, you two should really just refrain from talking to each other as it's just too likely that it will lead to one or the both of you being banned.

Closing thread.

Plus attacking opinions is now against forum rules, though it wasn't then.
To clarify this a little more... it's completely okay to disagree with someone. However, there are much more constructive ways to disagree with someone than to just say, "That's so dumb... what a moronic idea." Plus, people were using this wording to basically side-step the direct personal attack rules... saying stuff like that instead of saying "You're so dumb... you're such a moron." In my opinion, the spirit of the law is more important than the letter of the law in these situations.
