A question about the cuss filter thingy
so, i can type

and i don't end up with asterisks. is that supposed to happen?
oh, and the blacked out words are cuss words, just in case there are some who are sensitive.

Yes. Because the part of the word in question is also part of acceptable words.
Sometimes we just have to rely on people being able to control themselves when they know the intent of the rules and not just try to get away with whatever they can.

The whole thing is absurd, but it's a society issue more than the Forum. To say "f'n" is OK but "****ing" isn't? Stupid. But, hey, America, God love it, is built on double standards.

At the same time, the mods don't want to have to go around editing every single instance of swearing (or variations thereof).
Hence a need for some kind of middle ground, and a point, or line, beyond which we don't want the forum members to go.
It would be nice (and I'm not directing this at you das, or anyone in particular) if everyone could just realize that these are the rules, they really aren't all that onerous, and just try to personally abide by them.

Don't worry about me ... I'm just here for the argument. I have made and will continue make a conscious effort to keep the swearing in check. As silly as it is for society to obsess over swearing, I understand why DVD Talk wants to walk a more conservative line, arbitrary though it may be.
As I noted in the Sports Talk post, as long as I can "use" (not "abuse") the cuss filter without getting in trouble, it doesn't bother me one bit.
As a site note, I have skirted the filter on a couple of occassions and would hope it acceptable in the future, e.g. the Shitty Shitty *** *** episode of <I>South Park</I> and the ****** episode of <I>Boston Public</I>.
