Yes, they hear it on the radio or TV, see it on the internet, or *gasp* actually read the newspaper!

So why do we have to see it all here too?

This is my source for news!

Not really, but I did learn about 9/11 here. I remember when the thread started and I thought it was a joke at first, then I thought that maybe a small plane had accidentally hit the WTC, then I read that the second plane hit and I went to find a TV. All the internet news sited were overloaded that day, and I got much of my infdormation here - and it turned out to be pretty accurate info too.

I also see stories here that I might gloss over or miss entirely otherwise. Funny stories.

Thanks, Otter Farm, for being my news source!

No. But as a member I am commenting on the thread-after-thread glut of news headlines here.

I finished reading the news already this morning. Actually, for some of these stories, I finished reading about them days ago. I come here for Other. I find primarily regurgitated "news".

Personally, I enjoy hearing about some of the "fringe news" on here. I read the Baltimore, Washington, Boston, Business Journals everyday in addition to a few specific daily e-mail updates...so I am up to date on the regular happenings..but the lady who jumped into the alligator tank...never would have known that!

Then here's a link that will get you 90% of this "news" before you see it here.

I'm speaking as a poster who enjoys the random "Strange" news every now and then. and I would just like to say to those posters who post the news, GREAT JOB. it is you who make the forums interesting and bring the juice that makes the otter farm the place it is.

If you don't like a thread, don't open it. I'm sure you can tell what a "News" thread is by just looking at the title.

I thought most 'news' posts here were so that we can discuss the news item? Sure, you can read the paper, but its nice to get others viewpoints on the issues.

and here, for all you folks who ever have a damn question or would like to find something on the net Google Cause I'm tired of seeing threads posted on the otter about random things on the net, so look it up yourself.

seriously. I don't see a sudden flood of news articles. it's more productive then a "letter to the editer" post and it weeds out the normal news from the stuff that truely belongs in Otter.

if you say "Just go look it up" it really doesn't support what this forum is about... constant motion and open communication. If you tell the people to stop posting what they find interesting then I'm sure it's going to slow down and become uninteresting.

I see this said a lot, but this catch-all phrase doesn't apply in all circumstances. You would have to tell me not to open Other for it to apply here.

I mostly don't open them. I'm ranting about not easily seeing a thread to open because I already have seen so many of the headlines and the stories before. I guess "news" is filling some kind of void.

Actually the news articles are the main reason I come back to the Other forum. In part to see what I missed as I don't read all the news headlines all the time and in part to post interesting articles I find. As CharlesC mentioned most of the fun is the discussion the news item causes.

Why don't we setup a "news" forum, like the sports forum then?

Isn't this a discussion board? I thought it was fair game to actually discuss the news.

I think we gutted the "OTHER FORUM" enough with the seperation of Sports, Mature, TV, and Music. do we really need one thing less to post in this forum?

what will be left? meet's and "what do you know about ____" threads?
