We're supposed to get compensation, but it all ends up getting funnelled... somewhere else.

If you ask to be a mod, does it automatically take you out of consideration? I couldn't be an oncall mod since I have to work during the day and don't have constant computer access at home, but I could be a demi-mod that could fix things if I happen across them. I can't stand seeing vague thread titles, but I don't like bothering the mods for something so petty. I'd love to be able to fix those.
Thoughts?

Well, I wouldn't abuse them or anything,
I'm just saying I run across little issues from time to time, that when they get fixed by a mod, the solution is what I would have done. I've been on the internet for several years now and think I've got some sort of handle on how a good forum runs. And I'm not trying to shirk responsiblity, I just don't want to get yelled at if somebody reported a thread to a mod, and I wasn't quick enough to douse a flame war or something.
It was just a thought, don't give it any more thought if you don't want to.

And no, asking to be a mod doesn't necessarily take you out of contention.
But the best way is to make use of the Report a post feature. It gives us an idea of how much time you're on the forum, how well you understand our rules, and also gives us a taste of your temperment and attitude towards your fellow members. Using this feature regularly doesn't automatically make you a moderator candidate, but it does put you on the radar screen.

I like to think of myself as fairly level headed. I've bitten my tongue on several comments I wanted to make on a subject, and have later noticed people disciplined for making a similar fla- comment. I'll keep your suggestions in mind.

May I ask a question?
What is the difference here at DVD Talk between an admin and a mod? At HTF, the designations are interchangeable. In other words, a moderator is an administrator.
