That is the issue. Thats why there are seperate forums in the first place.

And I honestly believe if you had just let the Powder deal thread go without interfearance, it would have stayed more on topic than it has from all the modding.

Whether a comment would be better off somewhere else is precisely the issue. tdirgins' original complaint was that he was being censored. He isn't. The mod simply asked that the particular thread about a particular bargain stay on topic. He asked this more than once, but tdirgins admitted that he broke the rules because he felt strongly about the issue. Now tdirgins is whining because the rule was enforced.

The concept is not unreasonable nor difficult to understand. This is all just a bunch of grandstanding. There's no reason to be arguing about a director in the Bargain Forum when there's a perfectly good forum for that discussion elsewhere on the site. There's no high road here. The instructions in the thread were quite clear and absolutely reasonable. With full knowledge and forethought, they were broken. Upon feeling slighted, instead of posting a complaint in the Feedback Forum, we were treated to further grandstanding by posting in Otter just to get more people to read it.
If you don't like the rules, seek to have them changed. Breaking them and then criticizing the mod for enforcing them is a poor way to get anyone to see your point. Further bitching about it in Otter instead of the appropriate forum illustrates a willing desire to continually break the rules whenever it suits you and completely distracts from any potentially valid argument.
The mods work hard enough keeping this place one of few popular message boards that isn't riddled with personal attacks and inane jibber-jabber. Dragging them through the mud for enforcing a perfectly reasonable and easily understood rule is pretty low.

I buy Chasing Amy. It is both a Kevin Smith movie. And part of the Criterion Collection. So AKKK where do I put it on the shelf. Next to the Criterions, or next to the Kevin Smith movies. Personaly I keep mine between Mallrats and Dogma. But YOU might not do that. Does that make your way wrong?
I think that where your money goes for a deal, is very on topic for if something is a deal. Does that mean that it wouldnt also be on topic somewhere else? No, just means that in diffrent contexts the same thing could me talked about in multiple forums.
All evidence to the contrary... [/B]

The only points I was making by adding to my previous post were that 1) your comment met the official definition of thread crap 2) just saying that someone's comments are stupid as opposed to pointing out why you disagree with them is considered a personal attack on this board. For how much you seem to be enjoying touting the rules of this place, I guess you feel that they only apply to people with viewpoints different than your own.

Ok, I'm closing this thread as it's getting too confrontational and I think everyone's had their say.
The Bargain forum is for discussing Bargains...discussion about the store itself really belongs in the Store forum, but there's some pretty obvious gray area there which is why you will see comments about the quality of a store being discussed. Moreover, since they are the ones offering the deal, that seems wholly relavent to the discussion of the bargain.
The director, however, has little or nothing to do with a deal on the thread. As has been pointed out, there have been extensive discussions on this director, not only in DVDTalk, but also in Movie Talk. Those are the appropriate places to place those discussions.
The warning was put in place to avoid this kind of off topic posting. If you don't think it's off topic, that's very nice, but strictly speaking, if it's not related to the deal at hand, it's off topic. Ignoring direct moderator instructions, on just about anything, will get you at least a warning, if not a suspension or a ban.
We have hundreds of people who post here every day. If we don't have rules and enforce them, this place won't be much better than Usenet. The rules are what they are. We have always been open to valid discussions about them, but this time, jonathan.e was completely in the right. Certainly, he could have handled the thread differently, but it would just be different, not necessarily better or worse.
joltaddict, while appreciate your comments in this thread, calling other people's comments "retarded" isn't welcome, and certainly doesn't contribute to the coversation. I understand becoming frustrated with someone who seems to not be getting your point, but using loaded words like that rarely helps the situation.
LBPound, after all the begging you did to come back to this place after being banned, I find your comments here to not only show an incredible lack of understanding about how and why moderated forums work, but to also be borderline insulting and out of line. If you dislike it here so much, you are always free to go elsewhere.
FonMan and MacKenzieIII, as I've already pointed out, there's quite a difference between discussing the store that's offering the deal and discussing the director of the movie. And no one has said you can't have these discussions, just that the Bargains forum is not the place for them.
tdirgins, I'm the moderator who participated in the DVDTalk thread Static Cling mentioned, and went on at length agreeing about what an evil person Salva was. However, you ignored several moderator warnings about posting in that thread. You are not allowed to break the rules at your own whim. That's all that this is about. It has nothing to do with thread craps or censorship. You posted off topic comments in the threads. We regularly remove off topic comments from posts...and if you do it in a thread started by a moderator, you can bet it's going to be seen and acted on.
To all, this particular subject has been discussed at length on this board. It is not an unwelcome topic, and you should feel free to discuss it more if you wish, but in the correct forum. If you see off topic comments you think are detracting from the thread, use the Report this Post to a Moderator feature.
If anyone would like to discuss this further, feel free to email me, but I don't see anything useful coming out of more discussion on a moderator position (removing off topic comments) that we will not be changing.
Closing thread.
