Traffic has really slowed in Many Forums - Atmosphere gone

The traffic has slowed to just about a stop in many forums including Music talk, Book talk, Mature talk and others

I think people don't know where to go (well of course they know where to post what where) but you know, they don't know where to go to have fun, they don't know which forum their fellow dvdtalkers are hanging out at .

I do think the separation of all the forums has meant to a big atmosphere loss which is a bit sad me thinks

It's no longer a community atmosphere, it's more like a bulletin board, you post your topic, wait 2 days to see what people have to say. before for a good topic, there would be the back and forth banter of debate and opinion swapping. That to me has been lost somewhat.

Every year towards the end of May things slow down on the forums and every year in Aug they pick back up.

I know it's said over and over but: ebb and flow, ebb and flow

Yep, things always slow down over the summer, especially in June and July. Someone posts something like this in one of the forums every year.

College kids are away from dorms and ethernet connections, people are on vacation, and the weather is nice and people have better things to do. I know I post a lot less in the summer, as I spend more stuff doing things outdoors.

I like the new "relaxed" feel. The heavy traffic days before the forum split and crackdown was 99% drivel and pad threads...now things have more substance.

I worry about this too.

Let wait and see if it picks up and if not maybe we can start talking about a change.

Like what, bringing back Shaggy(he comes to mind because we're near the time I went on vacation last year and came back in time to see some drama)?

If the return of certain posters isn't enough, what do we need... kegs and live bands? or pads and chaos?

I'd post more during the day, but this damn company actually wants me to work.

Believe me, I do lurk a lot, but I just don't post as much cause I don't always have anything to add, plus the aformentioned job.

Atmosphere gone? I keep picturing scene near the end of Total Recall.

Maybe that was a part of their plan all along?

Less traffic + Cool Kitten = Less thread hi-jackings?

Life outside the internet? Interesting... maybe I should try getting out of the house more often.

As many have already said online activity and especially community based sites slow down with the close of the school year. It has nothing to do with DVDTalk in specific.

That said, it does seem slower than last year at this time, but that could just be my perception.

the majority of the slowdown is the students being gone

but.. keep in mind that we also have had some big changes.. the changes that are there to cut down on bandwidth used, of course caused a slowdown by itself.. add that in with the students being gone, and the overall effect should definitly be more then in previous years..
