Well, this is a message board, not a chat room. I believe the back and forth banter was part of what Geoff wanted to get away from in order to reduce bandwith. So I guess the changes are working.

i disagree Josh, Geoff wanted to get rid of pointless discussions, yes, but the back and forth banter that Cool Kitten and i are referring to, are for good topics, not the banal stuff. Now even when posting an intelligent, serious post, you can't get into a real debate. That is the point that we are making. I have no problem with the other stuff being getting rid of.

Even though dvdtalk is a bulletin board and not a chat room, it can still have atmosphere, which it definitely used to (and still does to an extent), but that atmosphere has dwindled.

Josh mate, you and i will never agree, you to me just come accross as a pure robot who just loves everything to be totally systematic and pidgeonholed without personality (now i know your not really like that, but that's how you come accross in dvdtalk). I'm sure that suits you well in your work , i also have to work that way to make sure i get my job done. BUT i don't want dvdtalk to be like work ! that's why i love it here, to get away from the seriousness of work and have some fun and hang with other online personalities

What in the world are you talking about? Other is in the same place it's always been, it's pretty obvious which threads go in sports & mature. Nothing at all prevents people from back & forth real discussions, only chatter is being cracked down on.

I disagree. We took one to Page 8 recently, and I still have comments I'd like to add to a Part II. I'm sure there have been plenty of good ones I haven't participated in, as well.

I'm finding less to post in on an informal basis, but on interesting topics, there still seems to be some energy.

I agree the overall nature of the forums has changed, but that's not necessarily bad.

I agree I am finding that i am posting far less. On rare occasions I post a bit then I stop for awhile.

I think the changes are some of it. maybe it is the ebb and flow thing- who knows for sure. I know it is not because I am out of school

funny thing is that many know far more than I do. I just understand how tough it is to have to look at all those options and decide what to buy so I make a point of trying to help as many of those members who post threads like that as I can

I agree with the others. Although the banter is cool and pertinent to you and whoever else is involved, it is usually worthless to everyone else and just clutters things. That kind of banter is much more suited to email and things like AIM. And since you're using them anyway, I don't see why that should be a problem.

I, for one, am actually enjoying DVDTalk much more after the changes. All the good discussions are still there without all the crap. When I want to read about and discuss sports, or mature things, I can find them easily. I know this isn't a popular opinion with all the cliques, because their existence is dependent on the "banter" that really turns almost all others away from the topics.
