Can we unleash grammar police on Other?

Poor grammar can lead to serious headaches, especially in Other.

Mayhap we could elect psuedo-mods to edit posts.

For some interesting data on the subject look here.

If grammer wasn't the problem, something else would be. It could be worse.

YouCouldHavePeopleWhoDoNotPutSpacesBetweenWords

Or it could be worse were people just don't ever end a sentence and breath but they continue to go on and on without ever stopping causing such a headache that I myself king of the improper grammer get annoyed so it could always be worse

Or it could be someone using colored text throughout there WHOLE post. Now that is annoying.

just be glad its a simple thing such as grammer.

Seems like a phenomenal waste of time to me, and a good way to piss some people off to boot; e.g. me.

We may not have room in our budget for grammar police, but I'll see if we can put together a spelling militia.

i'm sure i'm one of the ones you have a problem with. this is an internet board, not a term paper. i dont care about grammar or typos. if i tried to write everything with proper grammar and correct spelling, i'd have two posts a day

I obviously think that this would be very worthwhile. Not to piss anyone off but to make people better writers. I think that we all ought to do our own part in this venture. We can have the most intelligent, well-articulated board on the internet.

If you'd like, we could let the grammar police hit some of the reviews as they still contain many issues. I know that has been discussed before but I've seen little change.

Alyoshka,

If you're not being mostly serious here then allow me to preface this by saying, "not to spoil your fun, but...."

I think you're confusing your communication mediums. Posting in a forum isn't the same as writing a paper or even a book wherein one has an expectation of proper grammar and usage. It's more of a conversational form of communication, and just as you don't expect perfect grammar when having a conversation with your friends, you also shouldn't expect perfect grammar when reading a discussion board.

Of course there are problems with usage, spelling and grammar on the board, but it is very rare that it fundamentally interferes with members being able to understand one another.

I do, however, think the occassional thread about people's pet peeves are great as they often spark discussions about this subject, or examples of bad grammar. I especially liked JasonFliegel's point about how using two different words with similar meanings in the such close proximity conveys the idea that they have different meanings, when, in fact, they do not.

Finally, speaking as one of the mods here, please believe me when I say, "Nope. Not gonna happen!"

Yeah, I just thought that my statistics were funny. At least they were to me. That's why I didn't bother to call out individual posts/posters. Just wanted to show how bad the grammar can get on this board.

It is also acceptable to begin a sentence with a lower-case letter?

Aly, I have a phone number of a therapist in Dallas that specializes in anal-retentive behavior.

Drop me a line.

Hey, a few people have been mentioning that they want the ignore feature activated. Is there a correlation between the upsurge in requests for that and my recent crusade against bad grammar? Nah...
