I don't believe I was running Morpheus here at work when the popups occured. At home, I know for sure I wasn't as I'd just turned the computer on. It's very weird, but I haven't gotten any in a while.

It must be overly clever ads that are doing it. I don't know if the concept of "web bugs" has anything to do with it, but it is currently possible to do the following:
a. Load an ad.
b. Make a post that has a quiet web bug in it.
c. Some extra code.
d. Voila.
This was mentioned in the old "Privacy" thread on dvdTalk. I don't know if you still have that thread in the archives.
Currently, dvdTalk allows the existence of a good variety of code and tricks. I think it is possible for me to make a post that ultimately results in selectively locking up some users' machines (forcing a reboot) but not others. So, it may be technically possible for a dvdTalk post to currently lock up "Kenwood" but not "Geoff" for example. If posted from a free AOL account generated using a ******** CC, it could be fairly anonymous too (even if tracking back that CC).
I've only seen the code that could lead to the "popup" trick in two messages in all of year 2000's summer for dvdTalk user forums. Of course, I don't "robotically" scan messages, so who knows? The messages looked like they were from people just experimenting to see if it could be done, rather than implementing something.

Has the porn popup problem been solved? Well, since there were no new reports, I guess it was, but I was curious as to whether or not it occurred because Geoff checked back with the advertisers to verify if the ad agency was doing it<font color=green>.<font color=black>

Guys, I might have found out what it is/was. Plus, not a bad idea to run this anyway, as they are mostly used by porn companies. Not that any of you would know anything about porn sites...

Interactive (.com), have been finding ways to place a file
called IEHELPER.DLL onto Windows machines without the user's

If you've been experiencing pop-up advertisments every 5-10
pages you visit, there's a chance that it is because these
companies have been able to get the file onto your machine.
Run a FIND now and if you find this file, note its location
and move it to your desktop. You should be able to trash it
and enjoy surfing with fewer pop-ups, but restart and test your
browser just to be safe.
I hope this helps some of you who have been wondering where
all of these pop-ups were coming from.
