I don't know why it's taken me so long, but I finally finished watching "Rose of Versailles" (1979), a 40-episode anime series about Marie Antoinette, Lady Oscar Francois, and the French Revolution. It's one of the best anime series I've ever seen and I started watching it a few challenges ago. It's a demanding series and I guess I kept putting it off until I was in a mood best able to appreciate it. Now, I want to read a bio of Marie Antoinette and then go back and watch this series (and other film versions of Marie Antoinette's story) again.

It was shown on French television dubbed in French and I'd love to see that version with English subs.

I also re-watched the entire 24-episode series, "Toward the Terra," this month since I wanted to write about it.

Also, since watching the two-part PBS documentary about Walt Disney, I want to re-watch more Disney, including some of the more obscure animated features and featurettes not covered in the docu (e.g. THE RELUCTANT DRAGON, SALUDOS AMIGOS, THREE CABALLEROS, ICHABOD AND MR. TODD, MELODY TIME, MAKE MINE MUSIC, FUN AND FANCY FREE, etc.). And I still haven't seen WALT AND EL GRUPO, the documentary about his travels in South America in 1941.

I did watch PINOCCHIO (1940) last night, the first time I've seen it since at least the '90s. It's an odd one. Poor Pinocchio is failed by every adult in his life except for the Blue Fairy and then he goes and fails her! Gepetto is rewarded for his neglect and inability to protect Pinocchio by getting a real son at the end. It's a beautifully animated movie, of course, but tough thematically to process. But that's true of a lot of Disney features in my case.

Plus, I have more anime that I started and want to continue with, so I'm not participating in the Criterion Challenge, despite having tons of unwatched Criterion titles.

Thanks for a great challenge LJG. I had a fun month, and finished at 110 watches. Mostly half hour episodes, with some movies, and some shorts watched too.

Yesterday, I was able to accomplish two goals: finish the second season of Bob's Burgers and remove all animated features from my unwatched pile. I watched the BD of Akira that I acquired several months ago, and that cleared the last item out!

Congratulations to everyone for another great challenge! I hope everyone got at least some of their list whittled down! I was able to get all the animation out of my to watch pile plus a few others, so I'm happy with that. :) mrcellophane did the same, I see! I know for me, it can be harder than you think to make that pile smaller...

Looking over participants' list threads, I was happy to see that more than a few of us watched ONLY YESTERDAY (1991), my Blu-ray viewing being easily one of the highlights of the month for me. And more than a few of us watched selections of old cartoon shorts from many decades ago. I was happy to see that LJG765 took up my suggestion to follow that YouTube link to watch a package of b&w Looney Tunes that included a cartoon, "Puss 'n Booty," that I believe offered the prototype for the Sylvester and Tweety cartoons.

To decompress from a month of animation (mostly anime), I took a break today and watched a Hong Kong musical from 1971 and a pair of b&w westerns that ran on TCM this afternoon. YEE-Hah!

I recently bought a Roku and it really helps for the challenges, especially things on Youtube where I can put it on and still multitask a bit. As a kid I loved watched Looney Tunes so I try to watch at least a few for the challenge. It was nice having some "fresh" ones that I don't own. Only Yesterday has def. been on my radar, but just haven't gotten to it yet but I will one day!

This was perhaps my most personally rewarding Challenge in quite awhile.

Hit 100 for the first time since last October.
Finished creating my new monthly personal checklist and completed it.
Binged and enjoyed an entire series that I've been putting off for years, Godzilla.
And won my first Challenge prize in what seems like years.

Thanks for all your work on the challenge LJG765. It was a lot of fun.

I didn't keep track, but I'm sure I was well over 100. I was able to catch-up on a lot of shows I missed when they originally aired.

I caught the full series of Avatar: The Last Airbender and half the series of The Legend of Korra. I also watched the full Justice League: Unlimited along with a bunch of DC animated movies.

And I did a lot of anime. Full seasons of Princess Jellyfish, ReLIFE, Yamada & the 7 Witches, Blood Lad, and Seven Deadly Sins. I also got caught-up on the 6-7 simulcasts I'm watching this season. I loved the Girls und Panzer movie.

I really enjoyed that one. Especially the ending which was unexpected but perfect. I'm a big fan of those "healing" slice-of-life anime.

I feel the opposite! I recently bought a Roku and find that it does NOT help me with the challenges. At least not with what my original goal was in joining them, which was to force me to watch the thousands of discs that I've amassed over the years! LOL

I made it a point to watch a number of DC movies this month and I also watched the bonus episodes and features. I agree with you that the features do contain a lot of comics history and they normally do a good job of adding in a nice mix of bonus episodes. They were the hightlight of my month.

Use the "Multi-quote" tool - bottom right with the "+ image. Select multiples (1 or more posts) with that and on the final post to include select just "quote" and they'll all be stacked in a edit window.

He is awesome, I agree! Super generous as well! Last month he added on a ton of prizes on TOP of the usual ones he authorizes because he just had them and decided to donate them. It's fun as the host to pick them out and then be able to surprise someone at the end of the challenge, too!

Ha! I feel I'm able to balance watching discs vs watching the Roku so far! But I can see how it could become easier to just do that! I do feel like there are quite a few movies/shows not available through it, though, that I doubt I'd ever give up my physical discs!

I won't lie and say how long it took me to figure out how to do this when I first joined DVDTalk. I figured out how to quote one person pretty easy but for some reason, I just didn't realize what the quote marks meant! Whoops!

I discovered it by accident one day when I left the mouse "hovering" in that area and the text popped up. I played around with it a minute to figure out how it worked. Before I made that discovery I'd quote a reply, copy/paste that into notepad, go "back" (with the browser) rather than post, quote another, copy *it* under the first in notepad, etc., etc., until I had what I wanted and then paste it all in the "quick reply" message window to post. Lots of extra work!! :)

Some time later I discovered you can use it to do a multi-quote reply *across threads* as it'll keep any you've selected, whether or not in the thread currently being read/viewed, and add them to the whole. That's when I realized you could also quote a message in another thread, copy it to the clipboard, go to a different thread, paste the clipboard copy in the "quick reply" area and get that quote from the other thread. That's been useful on a couple of occasions when discussions mirror each other or the topic/post is similar/relevant.
