Re: Last DVD you watched?
Watched Category 6: Day of Destruction this evening, followed by the 3rd episode of Stranger Things: Holly, Jolly. Decided to watch an episode from the DVD instead of the BD to see if the inability to skip the previews was the same. Somehow I managed to skip them, not entirely sure how I did it, I was in the dark, probably pressed the wrong button, but somehow I did it.

Saw it theater and now at home. Loved the book and the first half but it strayed too far from anything to the book; not sure where they were going with this. 3 out of 5.

The Kidnapping of the President. Pretty shitty movie from 1980 starring William Shatner and Hal Holbrook...Just a silly storyline that doesn't amount to anything...Lots of dumb plot holes...
Deathrow Gameshow. The second feature on the disc that includes the movie above. This is horrible. Obviously the filmmaker responsible thought he was making a very clever comedy...Unfortunately, he was wrong. This is just a shitty movie. Has the odd interesting idea, and maybe a better filmmaker could've made more of the material, but this one is just bad. Like, offensively bad. Like, you want to find the filmmaker and punch him in the face for making it. That's how bad this one is. Atrocious. Don't watch this. It'll be a waste of 90 minutes or so. I wish I could go back in time and never had watched this...Or have my brain zapped and the memory of this movie erased...It's that bad...And I love the odd "so bad it's good movie", but this is NOT that...

Def-Con 4: Defense Control. Part of double-feature DVD with Hell Comes to Frogtown (haven't watched that one yet), this was surprisingly decent. Maury Chaykin was good in this...Has it's corny moments, but overall it was an okay way to spend 90 minutes...

Forever Mine. Fantastic Paul Schrader movie. Can't believe I put off watching this for years. I thought it would be a cheesy romance movie but it's was more than that. Just fantastic. Ray Liotta, Gretchen Mol, and Joseph Fiennes are all great in this...Highly recommended...And the DVD actually looks pretty decent, all things considered...Although I'd love to see a Blu-Ray upgrade released by some company like Kino Lorber...Wow...Just a solid, solid movie...

The Fan. Excellent and underrated movie by Tony Scott starring Robert De Niro and Wesley Snipes (also has a neat little early role for Benicio Del Toro)...I love this movie. De Niro plays the obsessive fan and Snipes plays the All-Star baseball player playing for the San Francisco Giants. Great soundtrack (lots of Rolling Stones songs) and lots of great shots of San Fran. The only downside is that the DVD is only full-screen. I really wish someone would release this on Blu-Ray, as I've never been able to see the widescreen version. One of my favorite Tony Scott movies, right up there with True Romance and Crimson Tide...

Boss. Don't want to spell out the full title, as it's offensive, but it's a blaxploitation movie written by and starring Fred Williamson. First off, the DVD looks awful (I think it's a Kit-Parker/VCI release). Looks like a VHS. Williamson, as usual, is awesome, but overall the movie is pretty weak. I especially didn't care for his sidekick, who I believe I saw in a couple other movies with Williamson. I love Fred Williamson, but this was a let-down...I originally learned of this movie from one of the 42nd Street Forever DVDs that consisted of nothing but movie trailers...If you've seen the trailer, you've basically seen the movie...If you want to see a kick-ass grindhouse movie starring Williamson, check out the original Inglorious Bastards...That was a good movie...(I also love Williamson's small part in From Dusk Till Dawn...I'd love to see Tarantino use him in another movie...
