Re: Last DVD you watched?
I just watched American Beauty for the first time since its theatrical run. I'm generally not in favor of fan cuts, but I'd be interested to see a different cut of this one. For starters, some of the plot points are advanced in what can best be characterized as Seinfeld-ian contrivances. That's fine, except the everything about the presentation--especially the score--emphasizes that This Is A Drama! The juxtaposition just doesn't work.
Also, while Chris Cooper and Wes Bentley turn in admirable performances, their characters just don't really add much to the story as it stands. I found myself bored through most of their scenes, wanting to return to the Spacey/Benning dynamics which I found far more interesting. And however much I used to hate "the most beautiful thing" (i.e., that damn floating bag video), I hated it even more this time. It felt arbitrarily forced into the film, and what's worse is it completely killed the momentum of the scene. And while I'd forgotten it, I'd like to also add that Spacey's voiceover at the end might even be worse, but for the fact that it comes at the end and isn't a speedbump in the middle of the film.

Re: Last DVD you watched?
A little after midnight last night, we watched an episode of Jeeves & Wooster, season 2 ("Kidnapped"). The majority of the plot contrivances hinge on minstrels in black face, and others adopting the disguise for themselves for assorted comedic reasons. Even holding a degree in history and knowing that context is paramount, I confess it made me squeamish.

Cabin Fever
Haven't seen this one in a while. Though it starts off slow, the film gets really fun in it's 2nd act

A Night at the Roxbury - 6/10
This was the first time I had watched it all the way through and it was better than I was expecting. Still pretty mediocre though.
