Bob, I think you'll enjoy Edge of Tomorrow. I freaking loved it, am delving into the special features now, but will spoiler one slight criticism and how I'd describe the movie.
Spoiler:
The movie is like a sci-fi super action version of Groundhog Day. I felt like the ending could have been better. It wasn't horrible, but I just feel like a kick-ass last act could have cemented this as one of my all-time favorites.
Also, thanks for mentioning that short in Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas; I like getting at least one Christmas item into every Challenge.

I'll add that I also loved Edge of Tomorrow. Was glad to have seen that in the theater and enjoyed a repeat viewing after it was released on disc.

I've seen it and can recommend it as a good film, but I don't recall any time travel elements. Just a futuristic setting/premise, if my memory is correct.

Thanks, on the back burner again. I did some more research too, and it looks like a good film to pair with Logan's Run some July.

I watched Time Machine: The Journey Back, a documentary from 1993 that was included with the old The Time Machine (1960) DVD. It had a lot of stuff about the special effects and the time machine prop, plus a new short addendum to the film starring Rod Taylor and Alan Young. I don't know how I missed it when I'd watched the DVD in the past.

Here's a fun image from the show (from a Back to the Future promo):

^ That was a very nice surprise. I expected a documentary or making-of, which are very hit or miss on depth and quality, but it turned into something fairly unique and quite entertaining. It helped raise my middling first impressions of the film.

That picture reminded me that I have a digital copy of Back in Time, the recent BTTF doc. I had completely forgotten about it, but need to see if I can squeeze that in today.

I've been laid up and off work all Challenge, but even with that and the extra days this time, I'll be leaving at least ten unwatched time travel films and the entirety of the Time Tunnel series on deck for 2020. Does that guarantee me living until then? Or does writing that guarantee me being gone by then? If so, I hereby decree that Bob has to run the next Challenge. It's about time (ha ha) that he get to work around here.

I have to assume your "middling first impressions" are because you waited so long to watch it. I love the movie, and like Bob, I first saw it at a young age.

Depending on my frame of mind at the time, the narration doesn't work well and drags it down a bit. Then there are those times, like when I watched it yesterday, when I'm wholly involved in the film and love every minute.
The narration is iffy, but it does help to remind you that he's telling the story to his friends. I want to say a few cutaways back to his dining room would've been a good idea, but that might've distracted too much from the main story. Anyway, it's still a film that, even though I have it on DVD, I stop and watch if I just happen to run across it on TV.

Maybe, but there are plenty of old films that I watch now and love at first sight, and I could see myself and others disliking The Time Machine as a kid too.

There are many faults: the special effects sort of stink even for 1960, the acting isn't great, the love story is silly, the bad guys and the way they fight are laugh-inducing, and it's preachiness is heavy handed. I remember enjoying the book in grade school, but the film seems very different.

Since you're making me think more about it, I'll change my "middling" and "anxious to see it again" to "its not a good film" and "my copy will possibly never leave it's case again."

That's what I meant by "next month." In hindsight it would have been better to just specify this year's AACM challenge. :/

OK... I've owned that DVD for a very long time. Mine is the 2000 snapper release. I've never even looked at the special features, something I rarely do anyway, and had no idea that was on the disc! Gotta pull it out and give it a viewing!

Starting The Butterfly Effect next. It's a film I remember absolutely loving on first viewing (blind bought the DVD early in my DVD hobby iirc); but it's possible that I've never watched it again, in my save-the-best-for-last philosophy which I'm trying to purge from my system.

I have a two-fer with it and the first sequel somewhere in my piles-o-unwatched-stuff. I'd wondered if it'd count for this one but didn't take the time to look it up and see. I figure it's sitting right next to the "missing" set which has my copy of Groundhog Day which is still in the piles because I've not yet watched the copy of Ghostbusters it includes. Why? Don't know as I already own that one and there's no real need to watch that duplicate other than to make sure there's nothing wrong with the disk, which doesn't matter because I already own the movie. A somewhat circuitous argument...

And I've got that 30 Rock episode queued up on Netflix to watch with the wifey as soon as she's free.

Nice

I'm trying to avoid going back to the same well as last time, but Xbox has a 10-episode TOS collection for $9.99 that I've always wanted (never mind that I probably have most of them on disc, plus streaming options) so I just used some credits on that and am spinning The City on the Edge of Forever.

I guess "spinning" is not really an appropriate phrase any more.

Different strokes... I find the effects quaint. I like the acting, but I'm a fan of Alan Young (mostly from Mister Ed, but it's also cool to hear him do his Uncle Scrooge voice) and Sebastian Cabot (another childhood favorite thanks to Family Affair and Ghost Story). Yvette Mimieux is cute as a button, and Whit Bissell is Whit Bissell. The preachiness of the story is no worse than your average Star Trek episode.

The movie's a late '50s low-budget sci-fi movie with goofy bug-eyed monsters, and a few faces that became famous in sitcoms in the '60s. I happen to enjoy that kind of stuff.

That's the same one I have. Also purchased in 2000. I might've only watched the DVD once before. I'm pretty sure the last time I watched the movie was on TCM.

So much for Kirk and Joan Collins. A transformer just blew up in our neighborhood and my power is gone.

How do you keep track of what you own across all the multiple platforms? I basically don't, but need to do something soon.

And I guess "spinning" works for videotape and all discs, and we're stuck with "streaming" for the rest.

We only have basic basic cable, and TCM may be my most missed channel.

Call the power company and tell them they need to understand that's it's a very limited Challenge window and you only have 12 hours left!
