Vamp U is as hilarious as last year. I'm mildly surprised there seems to have been no problem naming a vampire "Wayne Gretsky," while Todd McFarlane was sued under similar circumstances over Spawn. Guess vampires are noticably safer and/or the comedy makes things less problematic.
Especially his song: "Chris, you're like a poor man's version of Mary... butMary'sdeadsoI'lltakewhatIcanget."

I enjoy these school-themed horror films. Any suggestions for ones on Netflix/Hulu/Amazon Prime? It's a difficult subject to search for.

Started this morning off with a movie I'm sure people seen already in our Horror Challenge, All Hallows' Eve
Don't know how this fell thru the cracks on my radar. This 3 story anthology movie based on a clown was really creepy and got better as it moved along. Like how it also takes place on Halloween & the main story surrounds a babysitter. The last story was gory and gross. Best evil clown I have seen. Looking forward to watching part 2

Death Bell, on Youtube, fits today's theme and is a better movie than I expected... I watched it partially because the title seemed so odd and found a film that can't decide if it's a ghost story or torture porn but is executed with some nice artistry if not occasionally vague. Link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=O26dAIkeBvY
Personally I didn't like Last Shift as much as I hoped too; some of the effects were iffy and distracting. It also struck me as odd how hard it tried to ape real life events for some of the background. Last Shift was atmospheric being set it in an abandoned police station, but felt like they based the film too much around setting and just tacked on a plot in such a ill executed way it feels like a mid-grade haunted house with hit or miss eye candy.
I don't disagree that there is technically time within the month to watch 200-300 movies; I would personally feel fatigued trying to cram that many in. I watched 177 last year and hope to come near that again, but think watching much more would drive me to madness.
I don't recall any glaring audio inconsistencies with the DVD I watched last year...
Congratulations to Gobear!

I've been clearing out my Netflix queue of horror movies, so I've been watching a bunch of them. I'd say the best first time view horror so far has been The House at the End of Time.
One I really enjoyed that I saw earlier in the year, and haven't seen any discussion about, is Witching & Bitching. It's by Álex de la Iglesia, who's been putting out wonderfully twisted comedies on a pretty consistent basis for the last 20 years (and his biggest misfire was when he tried to do an English language straight-up thriller, The Oxford Murders). I think From Dusk Till Dawn with witches describes it pretty well. Just know that it's a horror-comedy, not a straight-up horror.
Looks like de la Iglesia's previous movie, The Last Circus, is still on Netflix too. Even though some movie sites may not list it as horror, it most definitely should count for the challenge. Here's the DVDTalk review (which, if you haven't seen the movie and are open to extreme and bizarre cinema, should pique your interest).

Netflix has Sorority Row (2009) which I enjoyed. They also have All Cheerleaders Die and The Awakening. If you're looking for something family-friendly, they have My Babysitter's A Vampire (Movie & TV series). That's a pretty fun show.
Amazon Prime has Carrie (2013).

i thought this started off strong then kind of ran out of steam midway, not to mention the various plot holes. but like you said, the ending it pretty good and the atmosphere was great, just wished they fixed a few issues. i don't regret buying it, as i'll share it with others.

I Watched Detention of the Dead on Showtime Beyond. It was an unexpected hoot, sort of The Breakfast Club meets the zombie apocalypse. I really enjoyed it.

Scooby Doo Meets KISS seems like an eye rollingly stupid gimmick to squeeze more out of two overlong franchises... but it's a lot of fun with visuals that are surprisingly over the top and more action oriented that typical Scooby Doo. It may not be the glory days of Scooby Doo crossovers but it's one that's worthy of the heritage.
Alex de la Iglesia is an over looked genius; Last Circus is a great film and I enjoyed Witching & Bitching. Some of his films can be bleak or violent but they deserve more attention.

Finally caught up on this thread. I just hit 44 titles with Hammer's The Plague of the Zombies. Pretty sure I won't hit 100 titles, but I may break 70. Feeling a little burned out but I'm looking forward to Final Exam for tonight's theme. Congratulations Gobear!

Common Wealth (which seems to be his most critically and commercially successful movie in this home country) is another one that is woefully difficult to watch in the US. Though I heard that may have something to do with legal problems stemming from a Darth Vader gag (which, admittedly, was pretty funny ).

Agree with all of this. This year I've been pretty much just one film per day from the themes. I do hope to get a few more at least a couple of days. Two years ago I was 80+ films and last year it was 52. This year I estimate I'll end up seeing around 40, give or take. Forces me to be selective, but I kind of enjoy that. Also, the films stand out more and are less of a blur.
Pretty sure it was only one year where one or two people claimed numbers that were almost certainly unrealistic, luckily the main culprit quit posting
Have you watched this yet Ed?

I haven't seen that one yet, because I honestly keep forgetting about it. I was hoping that Troma would have it at their Rock and Shock table yesterday, but they didn't. I definitely need to get my hands on a copy before the end of this one.

Has anyone watched The Possession of Michael King on any of the Showtime networks? I don't know if that movie experimented with a never-before-heard audio mix, but man, the sound effects were LOUD AS HELL! I had to constantly lower the volume on that one. It must have been a deafening experience to have watched this in a theater or on a BD disc with multiple speakers blasting.
I noticed this a lot with Asylum titles and other DTV horror years ago. They'd have 90% of the dialogue going through the center channel and 10% through left/right. On a TV with just left/right speakers, I'd have to turn it up a lot to hear and then when any other noises came on, it'd be loud as hell. Then I learned I'd have to specifically watch them on a surround sound system if I didn't want to always be adjusting the volume.

Funeral Home was pretty OK though.

Also to the gentleman early who was displeased with Catacombs (assuming he was talking about the one from the 80's) I recommend The Church (Dario Argento).

Whaaa? It was about an evil Nazi boat? How can you not like that!?!? I have even considered importing the blu since it seems the US blu release has no audio commentary (although it is probably not worth the efforts to mess with a region free player).

If anyone is looking for an excellent school-themed film, check out Night of the Eagle, a tale of witchcraft set in an English university. The Youtube version with the proper aspect ratio is the original British film, with Portuguese subtitles. In the US it is known as Burn, Witch, Burn.

Has anyone seen Takashi Miike's As the Gods Will? It certainly sounds like school-themed horror. I don't think I'll have a chance to see it until later in the month though (my work schedule makes watching movies between Monday and Thursday really difficult).
