There's a Dunwich Horror on Amazon Prime, too, which is helpful.

I don't know. It's not really horror. It's similar to Liar Liar except, it's other people telling the truth and there's the murder mystery. Sure someone has horns but it's not supposed to be scary.

Even if it's "just" Dark Fantasy (per the novel and descriptions of the film - which also say 'horror-comedy'), the supernatural elements push it squarely into the right ballpark. If horror HAS to be "scary," half the Universal Horrors are out for many people...!

The diabolical imagery and vengence theme makes Horns horror to me. I found it to be sharper than just a move about people telling the truth. It was hit or miss in effectiveness but horror none the less in my opinion.

For me, it takes a little more than that to call something horror. The TV show Strangers with Candy has those things but I'd never call it a horror show. The same imagery and scenes can be found in Disney movies but once again, I'm not going to call it horror because of that.

That plus the novel and film not being meant to be a horror novel/film means, to me at least, that it isn't really a horror film. Just because something might have a ghost in it, doesn't automatically mean it was meant to be horror.

These arguments for saying Horns is horror somewhat reminds me of the argument for including Amazing Spider-Man because the Lizard looks scary. It still didn't make it into a horror movie. In the first trilogy we have Peter Parker seeking vengeance over what happened to his uncle and we also have some monstrous villains. Then there's the terror of Wizard of Oz with the witch going after Dorothy and evil flying monkeys, which was also an argument for including that a a horror film. At least the monkeys and witches, not so much vengeance.

I don't care if someone watches Horns for the challenge, I just don't see it as a great pick for a subset film.

Well... Horns is not listed as "horror" on imdb and the general concensus is to use imdb as a benchmark.

Chad, I volunteered for a subset and wasn't on the list I saw. Just wanted to make sure you included me and updated how many movies were needed.

Apparently I missed Darth Maher too. Sorry, I posted this late-night while very tired. Fixed.

No problem about Horns, that is one of the ones I haven't seen but heard was good and saw available on netflix that hadn't been used for the challenge before so thought I'd throw the idea out there and suggested it before checking imdb then realized I should check incase but totally agree with following what imdb says.

It's still worth watching. I choose it to watch randomly one day, not thinking it'd be any good but then I had to finish it. Not sure it's something I'd care enough to rewatch but it's definitely worth watching if you haven't seen it.

Would Dracula 2000 count since Craven didn't direct it? That would be sort of like counting Lords of Dogtown for David Fincher or The Philadelphia Experiment for John Carpenter.

Personally, I think that Craven should have directed the film that is the subset pick for him...maybe something along the lines of Last House on the Left or The Hills Have Eyes or Summer of Fear or The Serpent and the Rainbow.

I'll go along with whatever the majority feels is right, however.
