In the meantime, I'm conflicted on what to choose for "Free Admission: Enter at Your Own Risk", so I'll put it up for vote.

House of Wax (1953) -or- Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988)?

We don't currently have any other films from the 50's on the list and HOW is obviously a classic. On the other hand, Killer Klowns is a cult classic and makes for a fun <strike>Saturday</strike> Friday flick. Help me decide.

Also, we still needs votes on the Criterion Crossover.

For the Criterion Crossover, I vote for Diabolique or Eyes Without a Face.

For Free Admission, I vote for House of Wax, only because I watched Killer Klowns two challenges back.

I vote Killer Klowns. I haven't seen it in quite awhile and need to give it a spin again. I remember not really caring for it that much despite it's cult status.

I vote for the same. I got House of Wax for my birthday in May and haven't watched it yet.

And heck, maybe I'll pick up The Blob just for the occasion. It is on my Amazon wish list.

Voting here for Killer Klowns; HoW may be the better film but KK fits the free admission theme better with it's go for the gusto carnival antics.

House of Wax

Carnival of Souls for Criterion.

  3. Drive-In Double Features (remember, you pick two)

I need a little clarification on theme three. Do our double feature picks need to have actually played at a drive-in, or is it more of a "fantasy" drive-in double feature?

Yeah, the intention is to have two films that played the drive-in circuit together as a double bill.

Very well. Then I select The Terror / Frankenstein 1970 for the Drive-In Double Features theme.

^Got it. Thanks.

And we're down to the last two...

We need picks from the following:
  1. Dick Laurent
  2. cwileyy

And they need to be from the following unclaimed themes:
  1. Made-for-TV Horror Movies & Horror Mini-Series ("The Midnight Hour" was used for a different theme, FYI)
  2. Eyes of Death (films that have eyes prominently featured on the cover art / poster.)

You can still pick films already chosen as suggestions if you want.

Link to theme nights if you need the links.

Would Eyes without a Face work as my subset pick for Eyes of Death? I think the poster displays the eyes pretty prominently.

Only if it's not being used as part of the Criterion Crossover, of course, but it seemed like Carnival of Souls was winning out. Otherwise, I can find something else with "Eyes".

It'd be fine. You might wanna have a backup pick just in the off chance there's a surge in votes, although I don't think that'll happen at this point.

Can't believe it's not on the link list, or that we haven't used it yet.

It's still not too late to get your vote in for Criterion Crossover if you haven't already.

Currently it's The Blob and Carnival of Souls with the most votes.

So, speaking of pre-Challenge planning, there are at least ten Criterion horror films, so starting tonight I'll be watching one horror film a night to count for the Criterion Challenge and get me really primed for the Horror Challenge.

Thanks! I think a few of them aren't quite horror, so I'll stick to the sure bets.

Watching Videodrome tonight.

I try to avoid rewatches, but I've already seen all the Criterion horror films so I've decided to rewatch Rosemary's Baby. It's been a long time since I've seen it and I didn't think it was anything special, so I'm going to revisit it.

There were so many films I put on my 'rewatch' list after gathering lists for TSZDT, just reading about how much other people liked them made me want to see them again even if I didn't like them.

I'm still playing catch up on this thread, and I would like to nominate Late Phases for the Werewolf theme. I really did enjoy it.

Free Admission - House Of Wax
Criterion - Carnival of Souls

Even though we're waiting on the final pick, I think I'm gonna go ahead and post the subset list tonight minus that entry. All I have to do is plug it into the table later, and just hold off the on its discussion thread. No big deal. And I'll give some time for everyone to look over the list before putting up the threads.

Then on to the checklist.

I bet some could complete it the first day. And Christopher Lee is conveniently included.

Spoiler:
Watch films in at least two languages other than English.

Watch a film and its remake.

watch a film which won an Academy Award -- any category.

Watch a film and at least two sequels.

Watch a film in each of the following horror subgenres:
--- Vampire
--- Werewolf
--- Ghost/haunting
--- Witchcraft/satanic/religious
--- Zombie
--- Slasher/psycho/homicidal maniac
--- Monster/creature feature

Watch a film starring:
--- Bela Lugosi
--- Lon Chaney (Sr. or Jr.)
--- Boris Karloff
--- Vincent Price
--- Christopher Lee
--- Jamie Lee Curtis

Watch a film you've heard about but haven't seen (and report back in the discussion thread).

If I was the killer, I'd make sure to make posts like that from my victim's account.

Uh oh. A Video Nasty appears very early in the game. That might not go so well

Lots of stuff I've already seen, but wouldn't mind re-visiting certain ones.

House By The Cemetary.....Oh no, you di'nt!!!! THE RETURN OF BOB!!!!

And I wonder if I was the only one that thought Next of Kin was that Patrick Swayze movie.

BTW, Chad, if you already had a certain poster for Pet Sematary's discussion thread planned, then discard this. But if you're open for alternatives:
Spoiler:

EDIT-Cool! Looks like you had the same poster in mind!
