Yeah, any news at all on the DVD front concerning further seasons what with the Disney acquisition?
As for season 20, the one that was already released is bare-bones, and I know the show runners want to do a stacked set for that one with commentaries and deleted scenes, just like all the other sets.

Poked around on Amazon and it looks like they're letting all of the previous seasons go out of print.

$50?! Man, I'm the biggest Simpsons fan I know, but come on. That's a tough one.
Weve thought about Disney+ or whatever it's going to he called and if The Simpsons moves to that, and it looks like it will, that may be what actually gets me motivated to do it.
I've taught my kids to love The Simpsons. I win.

I kind of am guessing it’ll drop in price before it releases. Although if I remember correctly Season 18 which was the last one Fox released was supposed to MSRP for $34.99 or $39.99 at first I believe. So either way looks like Disney is charging more. They probably know there’s money with these sets, but they don’t release a lot of full seasons so maybe are testing how much people are really willing to pay.

They better go back to Blu-Ray at least for season 21 onward, since those are in HD.

And one can see a perfect example or two as to how releasing classic shows on the Blu-Ray format did sales wise, from which heard was terrible as I'm referring to those few seasons of I Love Lucy and Andy Griffith.

It actually surprises me that Fox released as many seasons of The Simpsons on Blu-ray as they did. Six releases is quite a bit really. I’d like to see future seasons on Blu-ray, but considering the releases were almost cancelled all together I’m glad to be getting anything at all.

Well, pre season 21 were not in HD, so while the blu-rays do look marginally better, it's not a big deal.
I do hope that if they do ever get to releasing the HD seasons, that those will be on blu-ray, but I'm not holding my breath.

Hey, thought I'd ask here: I happened to catch some older Simpsons eps at a friends house the other day, they had a DVR backlog from the syndication broadcasts. It was the episode where Homer made himself morbidly obese so he could work from home. Anyways, it was cropped to 16x9, and while the tops and bottoms were tight, but it wasn't absolutely butchered like I'd expect.
Did they do these at 1.66 or something? Or just zooming out on the image to get more real estate of the picture?

But then shows like Legion, The Americans, and American Horror Story got the shaft.
They don't seem interested in releasing Buffy the Vampire Slayer on blu-ray, but we should be grateful for that since the HD masters they made are fucking horrible.

Meanwhile all the seasons on Vudu got upgraded to HD but they're also cropped to 16x9. They had the original Christmas episode for free and it was originally 4x3 SD, they put it up for free later in HD and my copy is now cropped- but I have it on disc so it doesn't matter. There was a complaint on the Vudu forum from someone who bought some of these not knowing they were cropped, and the response was "too bad, that's what the studio gave us and we're not changing them." There's a mysterious blank space where episode 1 of season 3 used to be also. Wonder if that was erased from "purchased" collections?
Ironically I don't think I've seen any other 4x3 show with cropped masters (except Seinfeld, and there's lots of notes about that one.) One of the DVD commentaries has Matt Groening say "By the way, you better be watching this in the correct aspect ratio", and that was before the cropping for cable started.

Yeah, seasons 15 to 20 (roughly) were the dregs of the show (with some bright spots here and there), but things picked up a bit with 21 (of course, not like the classic seasons), and had a better good to poor episode ratio than the few seasons before.

I have the season 15 bluray coming in the mail, and I bought a replacement set for season 7. I'm missing season 16 and 17 and I have found where I'll buy them to get caught up. I'll at least have seasons 1-20 once the season 19 set is released.

Re: No More Simpsons on DVD
Less than I paid originally but still a bit high considering how old the releases are. Works out to like $27.50 a season (not factoring in tax). Also I’m guessing that the season three release won’t include Stark Raving Dad (the episode featuring Michael Jackson). Not really sure who this set is aimed at. The fans probably have all the seasons individually, and while it is a nice looking set it’s not complete.

Re: No More Simpsons on DVD
IF the discs are the same as the season sets when first released you would think Stark Raving Dad would be included. I haven't bought Season 18 yet but otherwise i'm all caught up buying the season sets.
