I'll probably be super busy around that time, but I can also help keep score if needed (I love stats and do it all the time on my own forum, so it's fun for me

I really want to watch Killer Tongue now
Also, for that horror list I made The Nightmare Before Christmas is ranked at 584. On the other hand, people [not too many] also voted for stuff like The Sound of Music, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Hunger, Winter's Bone etc.. I don't think there has to be an overlap between what you consider horror and what has actual horror conventions/elements in it. I think something like The Nightmare Before Christmas has enough horror elements to be considered horror (the tone, atmosphere, Halloween, ghouls etc), whether you actually personally think of it as a horror film or not. I consider Psycho a pure thriller and not a horror film, but there are enough elements of horror in it, that I'm not bothered by labelling it as such.

Facebook page[/URL]? After last year’s challenge ended we were at around 125 subscribers; we’re currently at just under 700! What the hell? There was a huge surge of subscribers starting back in February, and at times 100+ people would join in the span of a week! I realize there’s no guarantee a single one of those people will join the challenge, but let’s say ¼ of them did, well, that would more than double the numbers right there. And honestly, what other possible reason would you have to join a Facebook page that's only active 3 or 4 months of the year other than the intention of participating? Was this thing announced on a morning news show or what?

Exactly. I knew there were some genres that had to be in there but would not be for everyone. 70s porn, for instance. It's a legit exploitation genre but not everyone's cup of tea. The Drive-in Checklist is primarily definitional.

Is there any reason to have a FB page? Is it used during the challenge? I am not on Facebook so I have no knowledge of what it is used for in the challenge.
I figured this challenge helps steer some people to the slowly dying DVD talk and would hope all activity and comments happen here and not on Facebook at all.
But that could be just me.

Idea: Assign out the stats. One person checks all the FTV, one person tabulates the formats. Bring on 20 people or so to do all the counting for you? I would have no problem contributing in such a way towards a cause that has brought so much happiness into my life.
In fact I was thinking about running a month long horror sheep but if we can help make it fun for you again chad we will.

For what it's worth I like the subsets and theme days without actively participating in them usually. It's something cool that adds to the challenge. I hope people don't think it is only about that when it's really about viewing as much horror as you can and celebrating the genre.
If Chad has to cut back on his contributions this year I feel like we can all pick up a little bit of slack to help him out. He's been a constant in this thing since it started and the 6+ years I've been around he's been amazing. This challenge has given me friends to talk to and supporters for my site/blog Celluloid Terror that I otherwise wouldn't have so I owe a debt of gratitude on a personal and semi-professional level to it. We're hopefully launching the new and vastly improved full version of CT by Halloween so this challenge will be special to me

Regarding stuff that is not horror, those occasionally sneak up but I feel like by far that's the exception to the rule - I agree the horror challenge should be horror focused including whatever optional components (seemingly no one is arguing for non-horror entries) but even that leaves a lot of 'gray areas' (ex: people defending Nightmare Before Xmas as horror).

I'm happy to help in whatever facility - I'll volunteer for calculating 'films by decade' and 'total time watched' for all participants.

We have to keep the Subsets, Theme Nights and Checklists. They have been a part of the challenege for a while, and help find new movies to watch. They are optional and should remain optional, just for people who want to strive to figure everything out.

re: Comments, Suggestions & Feedback for the 2015 Horror Challenge
I support keeping the subset and theme nights horror focused even if Halloween only items do count for lists. If a movie isn't listed as "horror" on IMDB and/or other reliable database then it shouldn't be suggested viewing for a horror challenge. Halloween themed stuff should always be fine for lists, there's just some debate over how much Halloween only stuff should game for included as subset films.

re: Comments, Suggestions & Feedback for the 2015 Horror Challenge
I'm fine with Halloween stuff being in any optional list since it's the month for Halloween and if there was no Halloween, there'd be no month dedicated to horror and this challenge wouldn't exist as it does.
Is there some example of a subset list filled with non-horror Halloween related films because I can't seem to remember any.

Re: About this year's Horror Challenge...
I would state right from the get go that each person has to tabulate their own stats (whatever the agreed upon stats are at the very beginning of the challenge).
For those that do not complete their stats by the end of the 1st week of November (or however long you want to let it run), then they cannot expect to be up for any prizes.

I remember when some people were trying to qualify E.T. and Spider-man for the horror challenge.
That's the kind of stuff that gets on my nerves...but I still try to stay out of it.

For me, horror films have vampires, ghouls, witches, ghosts, werewolves and Lovecraftian entities from the spaces outside the universe.
For other people, horror might mean bunnies.
