So I Saw This Ad On Craigslist...

I'm not sure if this is the right place to start a thread like this, but I really REALLY wanted to share this ad from CL that I saw for a DVD collection. Maybe you've found something similarly "off the wall" so to speak, and would be willing to share it with the rest of the class

http://providence.craigslist.org/emd/4443238641.html

Now, in their defense, they did update the ad about 48 hours later. I will post that link as soon as I find it again. Enjoy !

Re: So I Saw This Ad On Craigslist...

Okay, here's the updated ad. Better picture quality and a little less text, but not much of an improvement overall...

http://providence.craigslist.org/emd/4436553645.html

I hope this starts an interesting topic of discussion.

The thread title should be: "How not to sell your DVD collection."

Re: So I Saw This Ad On Craigslist...

Yeah that ad almost comes across like he's being forced to sell because of his two young children who take up most of his time.

It's not clear if she has kids or not.

Wow, that's one jaded and cynical craigslist user! I can see if they were selling the lot for $150 but even then it's an effective example of how to get zero responses.

In today's market $2 a piece is the "cherry-pick" price, not the lot price.

Remember, when you lowball someone, you not only insult them, but their children, and their children's children.

He would more likely be the purchaser.

Nope, don't buy used discs (unless they're something that's out of print that I REALLY want.) Also don't have nor want kids- I'd advise the seller to stock up on condoms!

Re: So I Saw This Ad On Craigslist...

I'm curious if there are any titles that would be considered "Two Small Children Unfriendly"?

Please do not ask for a list of titles.

Half the tables at the local flea markets here sell them for $1 each.

Re: So I Saw This Ad On Craigslist...

If you have both ads in two tabs, and switch between them, you'll notice the picture is taken at the exact same angle, but in the blurry one, one of the kids is in the corner. It's kind of freaky actually...

You know they're in great condition with the kids around them.

Do not look in the general direction of the children.

Re: So I Saw This Ad On Craigslist...

I do not have time to sit here and list them ALL because as stated, two young children here that take up most of our time and attention. Will remove when sold.
If the two children are such a distraction, why not remove them now? Or do they need the $600 to pay the "haul away" fee?

You may damage the bookcase by swinging the children when removing them. Not now. Not ever.

Re: So I Saw This Ad On Craigslist...

I guess if they told the buyer the list of titles, the buyer wouldn't want any of it? Strange that they won't give a title list.

Re: So I Saw This Ad On Craigslist...

Or at least post better / more close-up photos so people can read the titles. I walk in and I bought them, even though I don't know what they are? Huh. Such a bizarre ad. You gotta wonder what's behind all of those odd sentences.

Re: So I Saw This Ad On Craigslist...

Did anyone notice that she's selling them as new? How can they sell as new with small children? I've seen discs handled by children-they would not be considered new!

Thinking, good luck with that. I sold a huge lot of DVD's before and I sure made a list of the titles.

No kidding. As a lot they will be lucky to get half of that depending on the titles.

DO NOT ask if the children are for sale as well.
