Re: Fifth Annual Drive-in/Exploitation/B-Movie Challenge April 1-30 2014
I think I saw about 84 new films, out of around 106 watched this month.
Re-watching some financial bombs, I have to say that the new Lone Ranger and John Carter remain two of the best films I saw this month. On a par with The Little Shop of Horrors, WWYSTANL?, Pirate Movie, Sharknado and T&J: Oz. Of those new ones, the Pirate Movie was very interesting and witty, Sharknado was FAR, FAR better than I'd expected and highly enjoyable, while T&J and the Wizard of Oz was a very well-done amalgamation of the original and the new. What Would You Say...? was clever, amusing, interesting and thought-provoking.
I was most impressed by Elvis in Paradise, Hawaiian Style and also quite impressed by Cliff Richard in The Young Ones. Ringo's Caveman was novel for barely having any real dialogue, but was not as good as I'd hoped.
Probably the best (new) things I saw, in rough order were:
What Do You Say to a Naked Lady?
The Pirate Movie
Sharknado
Tom and Jerry & The Wizard of Oz
Private Parts
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Paradise, Hawaiian Style
God Bless America
Gangs, Inc.
The Young Ones
Rise of the Animals
I enjoyed all The Death Wishes, the original Lone Ranger films and the first couple of Sartana films, and the so-bad-they're-good that I liked the most include:
Cat-Women of the Moon
Wombling Free
The Fat Spy
The Sex Thief
The Slowest Gun in the West
Special mention to the Brain Smasher and the second-newest film I saw, the big screen version of Veronica Mars.
Probably the most bizarre was Scream of the Bikini.
Possibly the most surprising ending was The Sister-in-Law, although Le Professionnel (which may not even count) came close.

I didn't do the official checklist, just my own personal one. But my list's finalized.

I finalized my list. I ended up watching 72 films and completed the checklist which exceeds my goal of 50 films. 71 of the 72 films were first time watches. This challenge was a lot of fun and I enjoyed the discussion in the thread which has given me plenty of ideas for next year's challenge.
The formats I used were pretty evenly spread out:
Streaming - 29
Blu-ray - 20
DVD - 18
Other Means - 4 films
Theater - 1

My counts are final, but have been slammed here lately and stats and reviews will be just trickling in.

Larry Cohen is at Horrorhound Weekend September 5th weekend in Indianapolis and looks like he's selling them there. Might be able to to work at a deal with someone on their forum or Facebook to pick one up.

I think the logistics of such a transaction would probably raise the price to an unpalatable level. Thanks for the heads up though. Maybe he will hit Oklahoma at some point...

I'm raring to go on this one. Have lots of stuff pre-ordered and Vinegar Syndrome will provide some of my go-to viewings.
Any word on when threads are going up. This is fast becoming my favorite challenge and with 39 watches last year, I'm looking to beat that number.

I almost started watching some trashy barbarian/boob movies for the action challenge then caught myself.

OK, new thread is live. It's a rough place filler for now.
