I'd only forbid the new American remakes.

I can't wait, but I have low expectations. There's only so much you can polish a turd.

Cool, I wasn't talking about the American remakes anyways, but the Japanese movies.

Technically, I don't think I could forbid even the American remakes, but I will say they go against the spirit of the challenge.

Tried watching Revenge of the Ninja last night for the Action/Adventure Challenge and found out that since it was used, it was useless, skipped too much to count anyways, so the only martial arts I'll probably be watching is my Mill Creek Martial Arts set. I'd already watched The Five Venoms for the Action/Adventure Challenge.

Yeah, I've got a bunch of Kung fu lined up. This might've already been covered in the Action-challenge thread, but ICM added new Martial-arts/Action lists to check off:
http://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/10...al+arts+films/
^I'll try to get my hands on some of the pre-1984 movies.
http://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/ac...ion+movie+a-z/
^ I already found what I'm gonna be watching for the checklist's "Financial bomb"

Dimension X also has me thinking about doing a salute to Mike Vraney as well. Expect a number of well-deserved repeat viewings from me for the SWV label.

A couple years ago I DL'd a complete collection of Shaw Bros martial arts films. With Run Run's recent passing, I'll hit a few of those.

We did have a few passings recently. Run Run Shaw, Mike Vraney. Any others? I know the guy who did Beef's singing voice in Phantom of the Paradise died, but I was planning on watching that anyway.

I DL'ed Turkish Star Wars today, plan to hit that, and thinking of Dling Enter the Dragon, if Netflix doesn't have it. Seen it before, but always enjoyed it. Netflix has a lot of martial arts flicks too.

I'm still hurt by Haji

Too bad a lot of her movies are pretty tough to find. I think Motorpsycho is still on youtube.

On that first list, I have 90-95% of those titles in my collection, on tape or disc. Problem with that list, though, is the use of Chinese titles. With some you have to dig a little to find what film they're talking about. I don't know that each of those films is essential viewing, though. I have made up a list of 100 great kung fu films for a possible book project, but I never circulated it. Maybe I should put it up on my film blog.

I'm even kind of looking forward to watching Fluctuations again.

Damn, now that list makes me want to watch some non-SWV stuff.

Re: Fifth Annual Drive-in/Exploitation/B-Movie Challenge April 1-30 2014

I just watched Stealth to break in my new Blu Ray player, thinking it wouldn't be eligible for this challenge, but after doing research, I discovered on IMDB, it was one of the biggest box office bombs of all time, so I could have watched it for this challenge. The movie was part of a two pack with Vertical Limit, a movie I've never seen before. Would that count too? I want to know whether to watch it this month, or save it for next month.

Re: Fifth Annual Drive-in/Exploitation/B-Movie Challenge April 1-30 2014

I'd go ahead and watch it. A quick check on Wikipedia indicates it doesn't fit.

Reception

Vertical Limit earned mostly mixed reviews from critics, holding a 48% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 109 reviews.
Box office

The film opened at #2 at the North American box office, making $15.5 million USD in its opening weekend behind How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Vertical Limit ultimately grossed $69.2 million domestically and $146.4 million around the world to a total of $215.6 million worldwide, making the film financially successful on a budget of $75 million.

I haven't gotten to as much of my Eurocrime backlog as I'd like to have so far during the action challenge, so hopefully I will get to more of it in April for this challenge. I am looking forward to partaking in this challenge for the first time since the stuff eligible for this challenge makes up a good portion of my to watch piles.

I've been so busy watching Power Rangers and Sentai/tokusatsu stuff for the action challenge that all the Italian westerns, Eurocrime, Yakuza and Godzilla/Gamera movies I own have been put on hold for this challenge. I even found a great YouTube page filled with good transfers of complete Italian westerns:

https://www.youtube.com/user/ProfessionalGun66

It has several titles I never even heard of.

Thanks for the link. I also have a Mill Creek collection of Spaghetti Westerns, and a set of For a Few Dollars More, Fistful of Dollars, and The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, though FFDM, may need to have the scratches removed.

I've watched a lot of Godzilla, but haven't really touched Gamera yet. Though it's a moot point, as I enjoy kaiju enough to always be willing to watch it.

I just got a Roku today, and it looks like it has some great channels for some eligible movies, kung fu channels, b horror movies, a full moon channel, a drive in channel, etc.

Has anybody had any recent dealings with Code Red DVD? I haven't purchased any of their product since he decided to take the direct sales route. Is he reliable? Has the quality of the product changed at all?

Cool day, today. Got Clint Howard to sign my Rock n Roll High School one-sheet and picked up a 165 minute compilation of Ozploitation trailers.

I've ordered from Code Red a couple of times with no problems. Usually a fast ship and the quality is pretty much the same.

Are low budget horror movies generally acceptable for this challenge? I kind of winged it last time around.

Anyone know how this (Ozploitation Trailer Explosion) overlaps with the trailers included in the Not Quite Hollywood: The wild, untold story of Ozploitation! special edition set?
