Kudos to Chad on posting all the subset threads (in addition to all his challenge hosting), there's some classy looking poster art on display there.

Is there any rule for choosing actors, directors, writers and make-up artists?

Other than trying to avoid repeats, not really. Of course it's always a good idea to get a good mixture of both the past and present.

Also to anyone that enjoys a bit of hunting the 3 pack with Ice Cream Man and JF2: ROTMKS has recently been making the rounds at local Big Lots for $3.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 9th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

Hey everyone. I haven't really been on the site at all in the last year but I wanted to make sure I came back for this challenge. Just felt like saying how much this thing has meant to me and my family over the years. Halloween was always our favorite time of the year and this challenge has been something we've done together for years. It became something we really looked forward to doing. I'd usually start out with a movie that my wife criminally missed out on, like Jaws one year, and then we'd just kind of barrel through all the stuff we had, discovering new favorites. We even had moments that still stand out to me such as when we decided to drag out the fold-able bed to the living room and spend the night marathoning the Blind Dead movies. Between all the movies, there was also all the decorations, pumpkin patches, the chill in the air and the leaves falling, it was always so magical, and also why we got married on Halloween. Last year, about a week into the challenge, my wife went in to the hospital because of what would turn out to be her final turn in her cancer. She ended up passing away about a month later. Between that and Hurricane Sandy, obviously last year wasn't so good for me. I've spent the last year or so struggling and eventually had to quit my job to move back to Oregon from New York where I can have help taking care of my four year old son. Now I'm on unemployment, trying to find work in a place that basically has only garbage jobs while my school loans just defaulted and my son and I have to live in a room that's a quarter of the size of even the worst studio apartment I could have had back in NY.

Obviously, I haven't felt like doing much of my usual interests but this challenge is the first thing in a long time to actually excite me and have me looking forward to something. I'm hoping this will help me get out of the shell I've created, and I think my wife would have wanted us to stay with it since it was so important to us. And I still want Halloween to be important to my son so I'm trying to keep it as fun for him as possible. Plus at least I'm back to where I can actually get to my entire collection, even if it's in a storage room. While I can't say for sure how involved I'll be this year on the boards (at this point, I wouldn't be surprised to suddenly wake up one morning as a bean-field worker in New Mexico), I hope to be as engaged as possible and as always enjoy the discussion this challenge always brings out. And if I'm slow on updating the list on here, I'm pretty OCD about updating my Letterboxd so that'll always stay up to date. Thanks everyone. And sorry if I rambled. I just felt like letting those of you that put so much time and effort into this how much it really did mean to us and truly appreciate all you guys do.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 9th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

For film composer, Howard Shore, Albert Glasser, or Robert O. Ragland would all be good.

For actor, has Elisha Cook been used yet? What about Edward Van Sloan?

For makeup effects, I suggest Rob Bottin and/or Joe Blasco and/or John Chambers and/or Jack Pierce.

For director, how about William "One Shot" Beaudine? Dan Curtis? Freddie Francis? My earlier suggestion, Pete Walker? And how can we forget Jess Franco (R.I.P)?

And might I, once again, respectfully request that the "killer/evil _____" items be dropped? They've been on the checklist for a long while. Before removing them, and after the new additions, there's gonna be ~80 items on the checklist, which seems a bit much. Again, though, I'm just throwing it out there; I'll go along with whatever the majority want. I'm all about some democracy.

Sorry for your loss, dcrw6. I'm glad that this challenge can assist in bringing you some happiness and some normalcy back into your life. By continuing to participate, it sounds like a great tribute to your wife who obviously shared your enthusiasm for horror movies. If you ever need to step away from it for a while for whatever reason, I'm sure everyone here will understated and welcome you back with open arms.*

So sorry to hear about the rough times, dcrw6. But as others have said, I think your wife would want you to keep the tradition alive. Healing through horror. Maybe it could be a future self-help book.

But in all seriousness, you should know that we're here for discussion and support.

As for actresses, I would like Danielle Harris if she hasn't been done before.

I was surprised at several omissions, but then I realized that most of the people that I thought had been on the checklist had actually had a theme night dedicated to them. It's up to Chad, but I wouldn't think that would disqualify them from being a checklist item.

We should put Joel Soisson down for producer, there's a bunch of horror sequels and cheap cash-ins he's been responsible for (recent Hellraiser films, Feast, Children of the Corn, Mimic 2, Maniac Cop III, Piranha 3DD, later installments of The Prophecy, etc).

@dcrw6 - I am humbled to hear of your loss and offer my condolences. Hopefully the challenge can remain fun for you and not become a further reflection of your grief and loss, this could be a chance to reaffirm your interest in enjoying life and just have a blast. Best wishes. If you have a behavioral health degree I'm hiring in Houston, TX.

Jess Franco should definitely make the list this time considering his death this past year.

I'll add Jessica Cameron, indy scream queen. We all want new movies to watch, so I'm sure there's quite a bit of new movies people can watch with her in it.

Thanks help to have it all in one place. Some ideas for actors could be: Bette Davis, Anthony Hopkins, Jack Nicholson, and Dee Wallace. I think the ideas for using Wes Craven, Dario Argento, and Mario Bava are good for directors. I'd add Tobe Hooper and/or Stuart Gordon too for a director.
