Complete series of Inspector Gadget coming to DVD

It looks like the complete series of the Inspector Gadget cartoon is finally coming out this fall in four sets.

Re: Complete series of Inspector Gadget coming to DVD

Wow. Finally. I bought the Australian set a couple years ago, with the first 64 episodes spread over three 3-disk sets. Bewilderingly, they left off the last episode of season 1 ("Quiz Show"). I can only imagine that they didn't start counting until they reached the last disk of set 3, panicked, and then included an 8th episode. The other disks all contain 7 episodes, and they're DVD9's so the compression is reasonable, although the picture is far from sharp.

Unless New Video (never heard of them before) includes extras, I'll be in for set #3...and maybe beyond if the picture quality is much better. IG season 2 never really did it for me.

That's why it disappeared from Netflix. I'll catch hell for this, but shows like this are what I use subscriptions for; they're not something I really want to own, but I like watching with my son.

Do we really need extras ? I mean, we've waited for so long for the show, I'm just happy we're getting all the episodes.

Re: Complete series of Inspector Gadget coming to DVD

^^ It would be nice to see the Andy Heyward / Mike Maliani interviews from the earlier Sterling Entertainment and Shout Factory releases carried over, or something similar included. Or maybe the three different voice actor tracks for the pilot episode "Winter Olympics"? IMHO Gadget's humor was ahead of its time, with its various post-modern references (Get Smart, the Pink Panther films, James Bond, etc.), and I don't think there has ever been much written about the show in a scholarly manner. I would love to hear a few commentaries (or even more) that discuss the creative process.

But since I already own the series, yeah, my bar is set a bit higher. A complete R1 release, even with no extras, is long overdue.

So did anybody buy these sets? I was just browsing comments on Amazon and there appear to be issues with the video (at least on set #1) and periodic issues with the sound. Perhaps somebody here can offer a more analytical review?
