Warners Releasing 600 Paramount Films

From Dark Horizons:
http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/251...aramount-films

Paramount Home Media Distribution and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group have announced they have reached a strategic alliance centering on more than 600 catalog titles from the Paramount film library.

The deal grants Warner Bros. exclusive rights to physical Blu-ray and DVD distribution of those titles in the U.S. and Canada, and will make Paramount's UltraViolet offerings available on a non-exclusive basis through Flixster.

We should expect more multi-feature film packages, plenty of catalog titles making their Blu-ray debuts, and a broadening of the titles available in the Warner Archive Collection. Titles that fall under this arrangement include the likes of "Terms of Endearment," "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and "Airplane".

Did Paramount just throw in the towel? Why would they give Warner the rights to titles like that?

Paramount has always been kinda uncertain about the home video market, and hasn't released or gave a brief release to many of their catalog titles. Warner will give some love to some great old films.

One thing disturbs me; will this screw with Criterion's access to the Paramount catalog? Their releases of Harold and Maude and The Friends of Eddie Coyle are top-notch, and I'm looking forward to getting the Criterion BR of Rosemary's Baby. I was really hoping for Criterion to release Nashville and Seconds on Blu-Ray. I'd hate to see those films relegated to the Warner Archive.

Just what we need... more films relegated to overpriced MOD product.

This means we will get all the good bonus features Howard Stern said existed but Paramount was not releasing on any Special Edition. Now it will happen! (I guess.)

Gee, I love Rosemary's Baby but what could possibly exist that hasn't already been released? Roman Polanski practically did the book cold, and left nothing out of his film that was in the book. So, the only thing Criterion can have is, what? A "bloopers Reel" or something? I wouldn't pay $30 just for that!

The BR has commentary and interviews, but I'd be happy with improved picture and sound.

I hope they release Going Ape! (1981) starring by Tony Danza and Danny DeVito on DVD.

Here's hoping that some of these Paramount titles make it to the Warner Archive since they just announced they are going to start doing blu-rays there too.
