The Second Annual November Comedy Challenge

Last year's discussion thread
Last year's list thread

This Challenge was created last year by takingchase (who, for whatever reasons, disappeared mid-challenge). It seemed pretty well-received (I, for one, think it makes a perfect bridge between the October Horror Movie Challenge and the Holiday Challenge), so here we go again.

| Challenge starts at dusk October 31st and ends November 30th |

I liked the structure set up by takingchase, so there won't be many changes.

Rules
This Challenge overlaps with two well-established Challenges. Quite a bit with the Holiday Challenge. You can receive "double credit" and list any qualifying items watched for those other two Challenges during overlapping days on your Comedy Challenge list as well.

It should be self-evident what titles qualify, but if you have questions about something you've never seen, check out its genre classification on IMDB or Allrovi or ask in this thread.

Post your list in the list thread. Be as creative or as basic with your list as you want. Just please number your list.

Like the Holiday Challenge (which overlaps with this one), any title watched, no matter how long or how short, counts as one list item. This will make it easier to record qualifying items on both lists if you participate in both Challenges.

**LIST THREAD**

Now the trick is to make sure to not watch any horror comedy before Halloween!

I can see how it could've slipped past you last year. October is a busy month.

I was thinking the overlap from midnight to dawn on Nov. 1st would be enough, but maybe I should start this one at dusk on Oct. 31 for people that don't stay up until crazy hours.

I'm open to suggestions, and hope to hear a lot. The only things I'm set on are "easy counting," and Nov. 1st's theme will be horror comedy and Nov. 22nd's theme will be Thanksgiving comedy.

I had fun with this last year and think the transition from horror to comedy works well.

Re: The Second Annual November Comedy Challenge *Discussion Thread* Nov 1-30, 2012

I have a lot of things going on once the horror challenge ends so I know I can't get in as much watching as I do for the horror challenge but will definitely give it a shot because I love trying out new comedy movies although its the one genre that I'm pretty picky to even though I can laugh easily at quite a bit in real life. I'll probably watch "ernest scared stupid" after midnight on halloween so it crosses over with the comedy challenge. I think the checklist and theme nights look great the way they are, no suggestions I can think of currently.

For sure and I anticipate some interesting crossover potential. A lot of '80 genre filmmakers made both kinds of films.

I'm thinking I might possibly binge on part of a complete series that I own where I haven't seen every episode, perhaps I Love Lucy or Friends? Knowing myself I'll probably just end up watching random stuff instead.

You know this I'm sure, but I'm all for the dusk to dawn overlap. 12 hours of horror/comedy overlap will be easy to fill, and disappointing to have only time for 6-9 films.

Just reread some of last year's thread; and you all really did a great job putting this one together. Comedy in November to cool down from Horror October is perfect.

Re: The Second Annual November Comedy Challenge *Discussion Thread* Nov 1-30, 2012

Part of my mission this year to participate in every challenge from the current Horror one up to and including the Exploitation challenge. I have more time this year than in the past few and I'm enjoying the whole experience. Might not aim as high for all of them, but I will definitely participate as much as I can.

Looking forward to joining up for this one...man, October is moving fast! I need to start planning a bit for comedy titles now.

Re: The Second Annual November Comedy Challenge *Discussion Thread* Nov 1-30, 2012

Think I'll draw up my own subset list when I get a chance. So much unwatched comedy that I'd love to get around to.

Can't recommend the book Laughing Screaming by William Paul enough. It distinguishes between "sex quest" fims and "animal comedies" and the relationship to the horror genre. It's a perfect companion to these back-to-back challenges.

Since Trevor was the only one to voice an opinion either way, it looks like the ayes have it for the early start time (dusk on 10/31). I'll update the opening post to reflect this.

What about Xmas-themed comedies for Nov. 30th for a potential crossover with the holiday challenge? Or...maybe not. Comedic kids probably works well with that, too (Home Alone, etc.) and you have the holiday theme for thanksgiving.

Love the categories overall.
