Love the categories overall.
Well, now that you brought that up. Comedic Kids, Animated Comedies, Fantasy Comedy, and Sitcoms can all work for "double dips". Fitzwilly is a Crime/Caper comedy that takes place during the Holidays. I'm sure there are others (doesn't Ocean's Eleven take place on New Years Eve?). I could move Mockumentaries, Ethnic Humor, and Stoner Comedies to earlier in the month, but what should I switch them with?

I'll give it a try. I can't predict how many i'll be able to watch. But it sounds like fun.

One of the best things about using the "easy counting" method is you can rack up crazy high numbers just by watching cartoons for a few days (that's how I made my highest count ever for the Academy Award Challenge).

I've made a couple of small changes to the Checklist, and I'm still looking for suggestions to it or the Themes list. Whatever we end up with on Monday will be the finalized lists. I'll start the list thread on Thursday or Friday of next week.

I found out one of the movies in my MC Spaghetti Western set is eligible for the challenge, Sundance Cassidy and Butch the Kid, a western-comedy.

Re: The Second Annual November Comedy Challenge *Discussion Thread* Nov 1-30, 2012

I'd love to say I have some exciting movies lined up for this challenge, but I think its mainly going to be catching up with the comedies on my tivo that I've ignored for this months challenge, do a catch up on Chelsea Lately episodes that I do every so often (I think I have like 80 on there right now), and some new tv seasons that were added to netflix instant. Last year this was my first (and still only) checklist I've ever completed, so I'd like to go for that again, it made me watch things I normally wouldn't have and I ended up enjoying most of it.

I still have a few movies left to watch in the Jerry Lewis box set I started last year, after that I'm not sure what I'll be watching. I might just randomly watch old sitcoms, or maybe pad my numbers with some of the cartoon DVDs I haven't gotten around to watching yet.

The list thread is now active.

I plan to watch my 3 Stooges DVD, and catch up on some backlogged comedy cartoons like Vandread, and my Futurama movies. I might watch other stuff as well, as while not huge, I have a decent sized collection of comedy.

There were a number of comedy Italian westerns. I know one of my sets has one: LIFE IS TOUGH, EH PROVIDENCE?

Others:
ACE HIGH (with Eli Wallach, Terence Hill and Bud Spencer)
DON'T TURN THE OTHER CHEEK (with Wallach)
MY NAME IS NOBODY (Terence Hill)
the TRINITY westerns with Hill and Spencer

A bunch of others.

Oh I totally forgot I had planned on starting and possibly finishing an Arrested Development rewatch in honor of it coming back next year either in November or January... will probably end up starting it in November and finishing what's left in January.

I hope to get in a few more Korean movies during the horror challenge, then make Korean comedy a focus of this challenge, although I won't be watching too much comedy during the first few days. I recall that last year my focus was on Spanish movies.

My Sassy Girl is one of the best comedies that I've seen, and I wanted to re-watch it with my family almost immediately, but didn't because I tend to focus on watching something new to me. I'll be using this challenge as a chance to share it. Unfortunately, it seems not to be easily available in the US-I have the Hong Kong director's cut DVD.

Otherwise, possible areas of viewing are Hong Kong comedies of the 1970s and 1980s, re-visiting Woody Allen (I haven't seen anything post Hannah and Her Sisters-as a result of a combination of the Soon-Yi Previn affair and a period in which my movie watching declined for more than a decade from the mid-1980s to the late 1990s), and anything that is included in a top list on icheckmovies.com (I don't obsess about my rank, but work at shoring it up at times).

My goals will be 100 viewings (since episodes of sitcoms each count as one viewing) and all theme nights. Will be a nice cool down after a hectic but satisfying horror challenge.
I have a few TV comedies I want to re-visit (Family Ties, for sure) and a few newer ones to check out (have to check what Netflix has got) and films pertaining to each theme night.

That's dedication, that is.

I'm new to all this, but I've been tending to pick only one a day to fit in with the theme.

With episodes counting, 100 should be considerably easier than the Horror challenge. Glad I read that!

I wonder if it would be possible to watch a film and an episode for every theme... hmm. How best to find the time to plan this when Horror is taking up my every spare moment..?!

I think I'll spread some of the comedy series I want to watch across the month, but aim for one feature per theme, unless the series I'm watching qualifies on that particular day. Have to play it by ear a bit, but I'm going to draw up a list between work and the horror challenge (still have a couple of checklist items outstanding on that one).

I hadn't thought about doing the themes (other than Horror Comedies on the first), but since I'm hosting this thing, maybe I should. It shouldn't be too difficult to watch an episode or two of a sitcom that fits on days where I don't feel up to watching a movie...

I can't wait until tomorrow night, as after a month of horror, I am itching for some comedy to lighten the mood.

^Hear! Hear! I've undergone a few family problems the past few days that've put somewhat of a damper on the tail end of the horror challenge. I, too, need some comedy to lighten things up a bit.

Except for some horror comedies the next 24 or so hours, I'm not sure of my plan for the month. I think I'll mainly go through my "put off way too long" comedy films, with some Disney sitcoms throughout the month as always. I'll be making Fido tonight my unofficial subset film choice for the crossover time with Horror after midnight.

Debating between a couple of films to start with tonight, maybe the Halloweentown movies, and a friend suggested starting with Meet the Spartans as he enjoys that movie and will be watching a lot with me.

Started the Comedy Challenge with a Halloween Comedy, the first Halloweentown, which was also quite an enjoyable first time view.

I ended the horror challenge and started the comedy challenge with Ernest Scared Stupid and Bud Abbott Lou Costello Meet Frankenstein. Got plenty of diverse choices of comedy for the rest of the month.

Re: The Second Annual November Comedy Challenge *Discussion Thread* Nov 1-30, 2012

Watched Halloweentown earlier for the horror challenge. I have watched it several times and even though it's very much a Disney kids movie, I do like it for some reason.

Watching Dr. Strangelove. Have to say, it is not my favorite. I get it's a satire and there is a bit or two that I enjoyed but I kind of thought it was boring. The end got better, but the beginning is way to slow for me. Think I just don't enjoy Stanley Kubrick films.
