If there is one challenge I will really up the prize ante for it is this one.

I have some Shout! stuff all ready to go now...Halloween II Blu and Halloween 2 DVD, RL Stines The Haunting Hour Vols 1 + 2, I am sure I could dig up some more Shout!.

Would like to toss in our DVD only exclusive versions of Twins of Evil and Frankenhooker too, even though the good gentleman at Synapse are already involved.

We just got some of the new Kino Bavas and Rollins, etc (Hatchet for a Honeymoon WILL be going home with me for the challenge!). Check out the site and feel free to make prize recommendations. I'm about as open to suggestions as it gets.
I sent you a PM.

I've always dealt with him too, but I'm starting to think Ry is no longer with the company because the newsletter hasn't had his name attached to it since March and can't find anything regarding him recently on the website. I've got the email address for a Colin Rodgers (his replacement, maybe?) who handles screeners, but don't know if he's the right guy to contact for this.

I was thinking the same thing. Leroy is the only other person I've really dealt with, other than Ry but I didn't try getting in touch with him about this. His email is leroy at fullmoonfeatures.com

Question: What are opinions on Salo and The Seventh Seal? Would either of these count as horror films?

Seventh Seal yes. I haven't seen Salo, despite having owned it. What's the verdict on these recent Olive discs:

Child's Play (1972)
The Dark Mirror
Man on a Swing
Secret Beyond the Door

No spoilers please, as I have yet to see any of them.

Also, if you're looking for more Bergman films to spin, Virgin Spring, Hour of the Wolf and The Magician should count.

Pretty excited about this. Really hoping it expand to more theaters:

"Halloween" (1978) returning to theaters starting October 25

You would consider The Seventh Seal horror? I watched it again recently, and I wouldn't consider it horror at all. I haven't seen The Magician. It's in my unwatched pile, so I would be curious to see if others think it's eligible. It's not listed as horror at any of our regular resources.

As for Salo, I wouldn't say it's really a horror film, but it's so graphic, violent and shocking that I don't think anyone would object to its inclusion. I think Salo is much more of a horror film than The Seventh Seal.

Edit to add: I just looked up The Seventh Seal and Salo on IMDB and AllMovie. The Seventh Seal is not classified as horror at either site, but Salo gets a horror nod at AllMovie, which means Salo is definitely eligible. Seventh Seal would be more of a judgment call. In my opinion, it's nowhere near a horror movie.

I wouldn't call The Seventh Seal a horror movie at all, despite having Death as a character. It's more an exploration of Christian existentialism. Salo, OTOH, if not exactly horror, is definitely in the same neighborhood.

Yeah, the presence of Death in Seventh Seal made me wonder if I could include it. I would think Hour of the Wolf would fall into the horror genre though.

Hour of the Wolf is good. In fact, it was one of the 31 film subset last year.

Thinking of picking up one of the seasons of Supernatural for the horror challenge.

We still need to do the subset, right?

I've only watched the first season, but I loved it! Brought back great memories of Kolchak: The Night Stalker.

Which was my justification - I've always thought it possessed horror elements both visually and thematically. Not a horror film, but a film that I thought should count during a horror challenge. Ditto The Magician.

Went on a Candy Corn Oreo hunt today, apparently my Target did not put them out yet...

Shame on Something Weird Video...
Like someone else mentioned, try the endcap. They're in a yellow bag that stands up, not at all like a normal Oreo bag. We almost missed them because they didn't look like they were Oreos. Nearby were the Halloween Oreos in a normal package. Taste pretty good, btw, vanilla'e.

Hmm... expanding the posts per page seemed to fix the thread for me.

As for The Seventh Seal and Salo, neither of them are horror films so I wouldn't count them. Bergman does have Hour of the Wolf and The Virgin Spring which would work. The Magician could also be counted I suppose.

Did anyone else spend $35 on the Twilight Time Night of the Living Dead remake blu-ray preorder today? Ouch... that's the worse part of this season, spending too much money on movies.

Imdb.com classified Salo as a "thriller" and if I recall correctly thrillers count. It doesn't get much more torture porn that Salo and specifically Circle of Blood chapter is a fit in my opinion. If Saw counts then so too should Salo.

I would also consider Seventh Seal worthy of this challenge. Aside from the character of death, the main focus is on the tension is trying to stall death. There's no jump scares but it doesn't get much more horror than a slow burn standoff with death. The pacing is atypical for a genre film but I say go for it. Both fit Wikipedia's definition of a horror movie . Worse case you could use a wild card for either.

Hour of the Wold is an amazing horror movie.

I've been trying to think up subset suggestions, I think only 2 people have offered any so far.

I have two Blue Underground BDs in my Goldbox today. Would anyone recommend City of the Living Dead or House by the Cemetary for about $15 each? I have at least one of the DVDs and like the films pretty much, but are they worth the upgrade?
