First DVD you watched?
In response to the always banal question, "What was the last DVD you watched?" I'm proposing this question instead.
The first one I watched was The Little Mermaid and I remember the blinders being lifted from my eyes and I realized I would never watch another VHS tape (except when a film wasn't available on DVD) again.

Daylight, since that was one of about 10 movies the store I bought my first player at had. Soundtrack kicks ass. Have it on HD-DVD now but have never had time to watch that.

Can't remember the actual first DVD I watched (of a friend who essentially got me into collecting back in the day) but it was back in 97. Although once I began collecting in 99 the first one I watched was Ghost in the Shell on my PC (which was also a first for me).

The first DVD I watched was Evita with Madonna. My parents gave me my player and a handful of (outrageously expensive) DVDs for Christmas, and I insisted that we watch it.

Re: First DVD you watched?
Good question, I love me some nostalgia porn. The first DVD I watched was A Bugs Life the second was Clerks. I also watched those dozens of times, because after buying a new computer with a DVD drive my wallet was light for quite a while. I remember I had to use up my savings AND get a Circuit City charge card.

Erin Brokovich at my mother in laws and father in laws house. My father in law always gets the latest gadgets. Man I was totally blown away with the picture quality. I was about a month later that I got a DVD player and some DVDs.

Can't recall the first DVD I watched, but the first DVD I owned was the original Classic Media Terror of Mechagodzilla, bought with my first DVD Player.

The Dark Crystal, which was a Chistmas gift from my grandmother in 1999. I didn't even have a player at that point, but I asked for it anyway because I loved the movie so much.
When my parents did buy our first player a week later (a "Y2K Compatible" Oritron ), they were unable to hook it up to our old floor model televison. The AV cables had to be routed through the VCR whenever we wanted to watch a movie.

No idea how people remember stuff like this. But if I had to guess, I'd say Star Trek First Contact. Pretty sure that was in the first batch of titles I bought, but I probably had at least a dozen before I bought my first player.

Re: First DVD you watched?
For me it was "The World is Not Enough" and "End of Days" - both were new releases when I bought my first DVD player and costco had a promotion where if you bought a DVD player you could pick out three titles under $25 for free. I forget what the third one was because I returned it a few days later.
I'll never forget afterwards my Dad (I was 13 when I bought my first player) thought that there was something wrong with the TV after we switched from DVD back to regular broadcast TV.

It was either a Doctor Who ("The Five Doctors") or Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, both of which I had bought before getting a DVD player.

I bought several movies with my first player. So it was either Vertigo, Singin' in the Rain, or Bull Durham. I'm thinking it was probably Singin' in the Rain.

Re: First DVD you watched?
At a friend's house, he showed me TRON, the Disney barebones edition in a white case. I was amazed by the sharpness of it. I loved the look of the film transfer with the dust and scratches, it made it more theatrical. I was impressed how clear the picture was, even when it was paused. The ability to randomly access anywhere in the movie, was revolutionary. I was dumbfounded how an entire movie could fit onto one little disc. I knew DVD was something special and I had to purchase one soon, even though most players were around $400 and movies in the $30-$40 range.

Mine was A Beautiful Mind. I was blown away by the extras. Holy Shit, I can watch this movie with Ron Howard explaining the scenes.
Wish I could go back to that initial excitement. Now I rarely bother with commentaries.

In the 'First DVD you ever purchased' thread, I guessed it was Legend (the 2-disc Ultimate Edition), so I would have to say that it was also the first DVD I ever watched... -kd5-
