Thanks Trevor. It was saving that banner that froze up my comp and I had to completely redo that as well but it was the easiest. I feel like an idiot for having all 3 projects up and not saving any of them. I'm working on rebuilding the checklist and theme nights now. They should be up by the latest tomorrow night. I know participation isn't that high but I still want to give people time to plan things out.

My horror list is seriously lacking from this. I'm like 20 days late on updating my list for the horror challenge.

You sure they didn't auto-save? I thought most modern applications automatically save drafts every few minutes.

They do unless they are the basics. I'm so used to the basics from being a poor college kid that I was just using notepad, lesson learned. Surprisingly, I'm remembering most of what I had down so I may even have this up tonight.

I'll be the first to say it, and it may be because I'm working on organizing it, but I'm getting pretty damn excited for this. I think I'm going to offer up a few dvd's from collection for trivia questions ala Chad's horror challenge as long as no one minds already opened dvd's as little extra prizes. Free is free so I can't imagine anyone would care.

That banner rules. Mainly because my name is on it, but for other reasons as well.

Same here. If I had known my quote would have been included, I would have tried to be more witty.

Getting my wife to watch horror is no easy task, but she love comedies so I am hoping that my numbers will be more impressive for this challenge.

No more waiting for the fam to go to bed to watch my movies!!!! Yay!!!

I pretty much abandoned the Horror Challenge but my heart belongs to comedy, so I'm definitely in.

Okay, I've gotta ask...out of all the comedies made why'd you choose THE JERK for the banner?

That was my thoughts going in. I figured it'd be a fun (and almost necessary) transition. I think November is a great fit for it.

Re: First Ever November Comedy Challenge discussion/suggestions/comments thread

You may already have something better ready to go takingchase, but here's a very basic checklist template:

Watch a film from 10 of the 13 decades of film history:
--- 1890 -
--- 1900 -
--- 1910 -
--- 1920 -
--- 1930 -
--- 1940 -
--- 1950 -
--- 1960 -
--- 1970 -
--- 1980 -
--- 1990 -
--- 2000 -
--- 2010 -

Watch a film from 5 of the 11 possible ratings:
--- Pre Codes -
--- Hayes approved -
--- G -
--- GP -
--- PG -
--- PG-13 -
--- M -
--- R -
--- X -
--- NC-17 -
--- Unrated Post-codes -

Watch items in at least three formats (DVD, TV, BD, Laser, streaming, HD-DVD, VHS, theatrical, etc)
--- (first format), (title)
--- (second format), (title)
--- (third format), (title)

Watch a short from at least three of these classics: (Stooges, L&H, WC Fields, Little Rascals, Fatty Arbunkle, others tba?)
--- (first performer), (title)
--- (second performer), (title)
--- (third performer), (title)

Watch a film from at least three of these classics: (Keaton, Chaplin, Lloyd, Hope & Crosby, Abbott & Costello, Marx Brothers, more tba?)
--- (first performer), (title)
--- (second performer), (title)
--- (third performer), (title)

--- a film with a commentary -
--- a film with a "riff" -
--- a special feature -
--- something animated -
--- something with a major holiday theme -
--- takes place on a vacation -
--- film version of a sitcom or reunion movie -
--- a mockumentary -

still working, but saving before a computer glitch....

Edit to add: Strikethru added to prevent confusion

Re: First Ever November Comedy Challenge discussion/suggestions/comments thread

thanks trevor. I just finished theme night and most of the checklist last night. I'm definitely using that ratings format you have. the bottom half is pretty close to what I have. once I add what you put together it will just about be done. when I get off work tonight ill make the list thread and get the checklist and theme night up.

again, I want to apologize for my tardiness on everything. This really just happened at the busiest time possible for me this year but I still wanted to get it started regardless. I promise subsequent years won't be like this.

Re: First Ever November Comedy Challenge discussion/suggestions/comments thread

anyone have any suggestions for more modern comedians? so far I have Seth Rogan, Ben Stiller, Jim Carrey, Will Ferrel, Paul Rudd. Most of the people that come to mind haven't been in too many films and a lot of the ones that were popular in the 90's I have down in a different category.

Re: First Ever November Comedy Challenge discussion/suggestions/comments thread

thanks for the suggestions. I've finished the checklist and I'm just about done with the theme night. My original plan was to have holiday theme night on thanksgiving but due to peoples holiday schedules maybe I should just leave it as a free day. I know thanksgiving for me means movies and food but I'm not sure about anyone else.

Re: First Ever November Comedy Challenge discussion/suggestions/comments thread

Well I work in a few hours so it's time to get at least a little sleep. I need to finish up formatting the list thread and the theme night but in the mean time the list thread is now up and can be found here

Everything is open to additions, subtractions, substitutes, whatever. If you don't like something let me know. I'm still missing two days on the theme night if anyone wants to throw out a few more suggestions. I tried to put a lot of the themes that would still qualify for the holiday challenge towards the end of the month.

EDIT: PLEASE READ
Please note I added some more to the checklist since posting this so if you have already copied it to your list you may want to update. If someone by chance doesn't notice this it should still be fine since all I did was add some females to the list of performers you can choose from.

Thanks, takingchase--looks fun(ny)!

And no apology necessary. I consider this a "bonus challenge," and appreciate the work you're doing to set this up, especially challenging for the initial run.

Looks great takingchase!

And yes, no apologies necessary! This already looks better than the first Challenge I cobbled together.

If anyone wants, watch a wedding comedy on 11/11/11 and think of me. I won't be here too much this month; with the planning, wedding, honeymoon, and move to Maryland all happening; but will be laughing with you in spirit.

Re: First Ever November Comedy Challenge discussion/suggestions/comments thread

I'd *love* to see the *a film with a "riff"* checklist item removed simply because I do not like "RiffTrax"/MST3K type productions. I typically wind up purchasing one for each challenge and watch it only because it's a checklist item. It would be very nice to not do that for a change.

And no female comedians? There's: Jane Curtain, Imogene Coca, Goldie Hawn, Whoopie Goldberg, Madeline Kahn, Bonnie Hunt, Tina Fey, Teri Garr, Gracie Allen, Phyllis Diller, Cloris Leachman, just to name a few off the top of my head.
