Starting off with this:
"They're using artillery on us!"
"You idiot--it's not the police... It's him."

Thanks guys! The honeymoon is over, but I still have to finish most of the move from Fairfax County to Frederick MD. I'm a borderline hoarder, and have lived in VA for 40 years, so difficult times and reduced DVDTalk time are in the cards for at least a couple more months, but I am here to stay.

Home from my holiday (my 21st birthday, went to a forest lodge for the week). Took some discs along, but they were whole seasons (the latest of How I Met Your Mother, Modern Family, Cougar Town) so only got a few down so far. Kicking into high gear this coming week, though.

Started this challenge off with DUTCH (1991) and PLANES, TRAINS & AUTOMOBILES (1987) -- really disappointed I couldn't find time to watch these two on Thanksgiving like I usually do. Seeing how the 1st comedy challenge is just about over I'm slowly shifting over to the holiday titles, and still have a bunch of non-Holiday related comedies I wanted to watch. Oh well.

One of my favorite moments of the challenge thus far was watching Redd Foxx sing during an episode of Sanford & Son.

^I must be missing something... I only found/saw that PacMan episode...
Someone last year used Elf - it was apparently done for the Game Boy Advanced (maybe others...).
I also found How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, Santa Claus is Comin' to Town! (both based on the Rankin/Bass animations), and Disney's A Christmas Carol games for the DS.

The list thread for this challenge has slipped off the front page.

I happened to watch Guillermo del Toro's Cronos tonight and was surprised to find out that I can count it for the challenge. Most of it is set around the Christmas season and a major scene takes place during a New Year's Eve party. A good choice for anyone looking for a non-traditional holiday film.

Why did I watch that random episode of Facts of Life?? It was so damn stupid!

^ THIS!
Also, two of the checklist items that were imported from the horror/ sci-fi challenges make no sense for the holiday challenge:
--- Watch a film/show that takes place in space.
--- Watch a film/show that takes place on or under the sea
How many Thanksgiving/Christmas/ New Year's shows take place in space or on the sea? Not many.
I would suggest that they be changed to :
--- Watch a film/show with a religious theme.
--- Watch a film/show about a non-Western winter holiday (e.g. Chanukkah, Diwali, Kwanzaa)

Those two are tough ones to find a large variety of shows.
I'm gonna take care of them with:
"From the Earth to the Moon: 1968" for the space with Apollo 8's trip around the moon & Christmas Eve broadcast
"The Spongebob Christmas Special" for under the sea

I totally didn't even think about Spongebob for the under the sea thing. I've watched that a few times and never used it for that one!

^Thanks for the Quark episode info! I own that series so it's somewhat of a no-brainer for the checklist item, although I also own From the Earth to the Moon mini. When I realized how difficult those 2 items were I was just going to throw in the towel and remove the checklist. Now for an "under the sea" one (don't own nor like Spongebob)...

I just think that having a religious theme entry and including non-Christian winter holidays would add a dimension to the challenge. Just my $.02. It's too late to do anything about it this year, but maybe for next year.

I'm sure the mods have plenty to do already, but sometimes I think they don't sticky the list thread until requested just to yank our chains (especially Ash's)

I had a pretty good run for a few days there, I'm still ahead of where I was last year on this day, but I've slowed down A LOT! I need to pick up the pace again so I can at least beat last year's results!
