I can see one needing to be in the right mood to really enjoy the Blind Dead films.

I'm not sure if I'm alone in this, but foreign films are often "harder" for me to really lose myself into. And that's what I love about films in general, an opportunity to escape, forget the current moment and myself, and just get lost in the story.

That said, I have a short attention span, and often need to be in the right frame of mind to really get into any film. Foreign films are even harder to do that with, as having to read them reinforces that I'm not really there, but watching a film.

I think it's because the Spanish actress playing the TV presenter is a better actress than the American, and IMO the Spanish script gets the audience more involved with the characters so that we care what happens to them.
I agree, but to an even stronger degree on how much better [REC] is over the piece of crap Quarantine.

I'll defer to Chad on this one, but having watched Sherlock Holmes (2009) last night, I'd argue that there is enough of a spell and sorcery element to justify listing it with a wild card.

I watched Troll last night for the first time, I enjoyed it! Just curious, is Troll in a standalone genre, fantasy horror? Are there others?

Now to watch Trolls 2 tonight, another first time view

I also thought it was movies about cults. Oh well, I still enjoyed Race With The Devil again.

After looking back at my list Tombs of the Blind Dead was my 90th entry and it was my first challenge so maybe being burnt out was to blame for my dislike. I ended up not even listing the other's in the series because I kept falling asleep and couldn't remember enough to review them. I think I'll at least put on Tombs of the Blind Dead this October and see if I can get into it this time.

I didn't care for it as well but it seemed to have a better ending than the rest of the film. Not saying it's great but it's better.

Didn't get off to a great start yesterday.

I put in The Black Cat, and it kept freezing about 30 mins in. Then I put in Bubba Ho-Tep, and that froze ten minutes before the end!

In all, I managed to fit two in, and hoping I can get another one in tonight after work.

Started this year with a different approach. I got all three of my Wild Cards out of the way right off the bat. Now in the middle of a Lugosi marathon.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 7th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (Oct 1-31) P

After a bad migraine and doc visit yesterday it seems my challenge kinda got de-railed right out of the gate. I think I'll just settle in to enjoy watching what I can. I met all of my goals last year, so just gonna be on cruise-control this year (that's the plan, at least).

Today I'm revisiting a light-hearted viewing of The 'Burbs, which successfully combines my two favorite film themes: Horror, and cookie-cutter suburban life. With cheese on the side.

Managed to squeeze in an enjoyable day 1 in the challenge.

Knocked out 'Halloween' before work and then finished off the night with 'Final Destination 5' and 'Red State'.

Whilst at the mall I picked up a used copy of 'The Devils Rejects' 2 disc dvd set purely for the '30 Days In Hell' documentary. I have a spare double blu ray case laying around that I'll transfer over my blu ray and the documentary into (I did the same with 'From Dusk Til Dawn' to incorporate 'Full Tilt Boogie')

Football will interrupt some viewing today, but I still aim to knock out at least 3

Getting a late start to things today due to a rough night last night. Hoping to knock out 3 before the Ravens game tonight.

just got through HALLOWEEN 4, 5 and 6 - forgot how bad those were. well 4 is ok but 5 and 6 just don't do it for me. at least i like the next one (H20) and then i've got to sit through the worst of the bunch (RESURRECTION). hopefully i'll be able to fit in another movie after that to wash the bad taste out...just can't figure out what.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 7th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (Oct 1-31) P

Regarding Blind Dead: See, usually it's very easy for me to get lost in the atmosphere of older foreign horror films, which is why it's kind of disappointing to me that I can't for these ones. I wouldn't say I hated them, though close to it for the third which was a chore to get through, but I was really looking forward to getting caught up in them, and I can't really place why. Could be stress from other problems going on, could be I was tired, I don't know. But I'll definitely have to give them another go later on. I still have the fourth one to watch since I decided to call it an end of the day last night for the sake of enjoying the movies.

And you know, I could see someone, if they put the effort and respect into it, making a pretty frightening remake of these today, even on a smaller budget.

Consensus when I asked a couple years ago was that it was strictly fantasy. I would be fine with counting it, as it is clearly horror related. But, as always, the rule of thumb is:

Just keep in mind that the #1 deciding factor regarding what counts is you and you alone.
On a side note, I have a horrific, recurring nightmare of being trapped in a video game with Olivia Wilde. So I plan to watch Tron 2 and count it.

Ugh. That's twice I intended to pull an all-nighter and puckered out around 2 AM. Still, it was an extremely enjoyable first day and finished it with a new favorite, Santa Sangre.

Possibly. I'm just going by the general consensus and the website linked seems to be on par. But they do seem to throw the cult label around pretty loosely these days.

Yeah, that's precisely what they're for. All it takes is a tinge of the macabre.

If you're talking about the one from the Bela Legosi set, I had the same problem last year. And I solved it by taking it out of my stand-alone player and putting it in the PS3 ...played flawlessly throughout. Same thing happened yesterday with Slaughter High. That baby will handle anything.

Got off to a slow start this year. Started will a few episodes of Goosebumps that I’ve been DVR-ing. Watching Goosebumps has kind of become a Halloween tradition ever seen that first started replaying them on Cartoon Network a few years ago.

I was able to get in one of the few anthologies that I haven’t seen yet, "Tales That Witness Madness" which was enjoyable but not quite on the level with the early Amicus ones.

Also watched "Scalps", which was damn near unwatchable. I meant to watch this for last years challenge and just never got around to it. Horrorhound had this one listed in the “Top 20 Most Underrated Slashers” but I have no idea how. They must have run out of titles as it is listed as number 20.

Has anyone seen The Last Winter with Ron Perlman? It has been on Showtime. I was debating counting it for today's theme. Appropriate for Down With the Sickness - Infection/Epidemic/Viral? It seems like it sort of is and sort of isn't. I don't know. Not quite done with it yet, though.

Edit to add: OK, now I am done with it, and I still don't think I could say for sure if it would be appropriate for today's theme or not.

That's the one exactly. However, I was watching it on my PS3 when it happened, and no dice on my computer either.

Fortunately, it's a rental from Netflix, and I should have a replacement very soon! Definitely excited to watch all three on the disc!
